- One monkey
- 400 cards with three riddles per card front. Each card back will have one of three graphics, as shown below. When put together, the three card back designs can spell out CHUNKY MONKEY in the MIDDLE.
Object
- Be the first player to win enough cards to spell out CHUNKY MONKEY in the MIDDLE.
- Earn cards by correctly guessing the word that connects the beginning and end of the riddle. For example, when the words 'SURPRISE' and then 'POOPER' are given... the answer is PARTY, as in "SURPRISE PARTY" and "PARTY POOPER."
- When you have collected three cards that spell out CHUNKY MONKEY in the MIDDLE, you win!
Game Play
- Place the monkey in the middle of the table. Each player should be at the same distance from the monkey.
- Choose a player to be the "reader" for the first round and give him/her the box of cards.
- The reader then draws a card, chooses one of the three riddles, and then reads out loud the first and last words in this riddle, but not the MIDDLE "connector" word.
- All other players attempt to be the first to figure out the correct connector word. If no one attempts an answer, the reader then begins to give the other players help by sharing the first letter of the connector word. If this doesn't help, the reader shares the next letter of the word – and so on. "P" ……. "A" ……. "R" ……. "T" ……. "Y"
- If a player has a guess for the connector word, he/she must first grab the monkey and then shout out the answer!
- If the player is right, he/she wins and keeps that specific game card; if the answer was wrong, the reader keeps this card!
- The reader then passes the box of cards to the player to his/her left, and that player becomes the reader (and so on, until the game play ends).
Note: Along with the inclusion of stand-alone words to make a phrase, riddles may consist of separate, open-form compound words – i.e., the words are separate, but when read together, they take on a new meaning (post office, real estate, full moon).
– OR –
The riddles may consist of split, closed-form compound words, which consist of two words literally joined to create a new meaning (firefly, softball, redhead, keyboard, makeup, notebook).
