108 Ingredient Cards

They are used to create dishes. There are four colours, each representing one of the dishes on the menu: Starters (Entrantes), First courses (Primeros), Main courses (Segundos) and Desserts (Postres).

Common Ingredient Cards (purple) can be placed in any dish in progress. But there can only be one per dish.

All Ingredient Cards have values that identify the type of product and the score:

  • 1 Point: Meat, Fish, Vegetable, or the purple "1" (Common ingredient).
  • 2 Points: the "2" icon.

18 Action Cards

Actions give you advantages in the game. There are 6 different types of actions and only one can be played per turn.

8 Customer Cards

Each customer has their own special requirements. If you meet them, you will receive 5 points of tip at the end of the game. If you do not meet them, 5 points are subtracted from you.

Object of the Game

Get the maximum number of points by adding ingredients, creating the four dishes of a menu: a Starter, a First course, a Main course and a Dessert. In addition, you must satisfy the gastronomic whims of your customers!

THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT! The Customer cards are very important for winning the game. Each of them has their own whims. There are customers who do not like fish, or meat, or who are gluttons. Try to use the right ingredients to earn yourself a good tip!

Setup

  • Prepare the Pantry Deck (Mazo de Despensa) by shuffling the Ingredient cards and the Action cards together.
  • Deal 4 cards to each player and place the Pantry Deck in the centre of the table. Take the first card and place it face up beside the deck (this starts the discard pile).
  • Shuffle the Customer Cards and deal one to each player. The Customer Card is placed face down beside each player. Each player must secretly look at which customer they have been dealt, to know what their order is.
  • In a 2-player game, remove from the game one "Chef Umami" card, one "Ladrón de platos" (Dish Thief) card, two "Déjame probar" (Let Me Taste) cards and two "Te cojo dos ingredientes" (I Take Two Ingredients) cards.
  • The starting player will be the last one who has prepared food or cleaned the kitchen.

Turn

Take turns until a player manages to finish and plate the four dishes of the menu.

Each turn has three phases:

Phase 1: Buy Ingredients

You must draw as many cards as you need to have five cards in your hand to begin the turn.

You may draw them all from the Pantry Deck, or draw only the first card of the discard pile and take the rest from the Pantry Deck.

You may draw the cards in whatever order you like.

Phase 2: Cook

In this phase you can do several things: start a dish, add ingredients, plate a dish, use actions, and watch that the products do not burn.

Keep a card to discard at the end of the turn!

1. Order up! (¡Marchando!)

Place an ingredient on the table to start ("put in progress") a dish. The colour of the ingredient determines the type of dish that is started.

You can start with whichever dish you want. The player who finishes the game with the Dessert dish will receive 5 extra points.

You can only start one dish of each type.

You cannot start a dish with a Common ingredient. (Illustrated as INCORRECT.)

2. Add Ingredients

Place ingredients on the dishes in progress. They must be of the same type as the dish. You can add as many ingredients as you want on your turn. Take your customer's order into account!

Common ingredients can be placed on any dish, but only one per dish.

3. Plate

To finish a dish and plate it you must have at least 3 ingredients placed on the table.

Place the last ingredient face down and turned sideways on the dish.

Once it is plated you can no longer add more ingredients.

A plated dish cannot be started again, nor can it be attacked.

4. Use Actions

You may use one Action Card whenever you want during your turn. Show the card to the other players and carry out the action described on the card. Then discard it to the discard pile.

5. Burnt Ingredients

When dishes are in progress, it is mandatory on each turn to add at least one ingredient to them.

If you cannot place any ingredient on the dishes in progress, you must remove the last ingredient you placed on that dish in progress and leave it on the discard pile.

Phase 3: Clean the Kitchen

  • To finish the turn it is mandatory that you discard a card onto the discard pile.
  • After discarding you cannot have more than 4 cards in your hand. If that is the case, you must discard cards until you have 4 in hand.
  • The game continues with the next player seated to your right.
  • If the cards of the Pantry Deck run out, shuffle the discarded cards and make a new Pantry Deck.

End of the Game

The game ends when one of the players manages to plate their fourth and last dish. They must discard a card face down onto the discard pile and shout: UMAMI!

(Illustration: the player has plated their last dish and has discarded a turned card to end the game.)

If the player who finishes the game does not shout UMAMI! they must discard the last ingredient they placed and the game continues.

The first to finish the four dishes is not necessarily the winner. Turn over the turned cards of the plated dishes and count the points obtained:

  1. If the player who ends the game plated the Dessert as their last dish, they gain 5 points.
  2. Add up the points of all the ingredients in the plated dishes. The card used to plate (which is face down) is also counted. Dishes that are not plated do not count.
  3. If any player has the Chef Umami card in hand, 5 points are subtracted from them.
  4. All players who meet the requirements of the Customer Card in all their plated dishes receive 5 points of tip. If not, 5 points are subtracted as a penalty for not satisfying the customer.

The player with the most points wins!
