Setup
Place the day cards in front of you as shown in the diagram, from Monday to Sunday. Your opponent does the same on their side.
The diagram shows your opponent's side at the top and your side at the bottom, with the discard pile and the draw pile between them.
Give each player a Cat Tree. Then shuffle the draw pile and deal each player 4 additional cards.
The Game
The last person to have petted a cat starts. You alternate turns until the end of the game.
On your turn, you perform a single action:
- Draw a card, or
- Play a card.
Once your action is complete, it is your opponent's turn.
Draw a Card
Draw the top card of the draw pile. If the draw pile is empty when you must draw, shuffle the discard pile to form a new draw pile.
Play a Card
Play a card from your hand.
- Cats are placed on the days of the week.
- Events go to the discard pile after their effect has been applied, with the exception of the Cardboard Box (Carton) and the Cat Tree, which stay on the days.
Each cat has an effect that indicates where it may be played, and sometimes other powers.
Unless stated otherwise, you must play a cat on an empty day. Keep the name of the day visible.
Example: the Demanding Cat (Chat exigeant) can only be played on your Sunday, and only if no cat is already on that day.
Card Clarifications
To play a card, you must be able to apply its effect, that is, you must be able to carry out its entire text.
- "Anywhere" means the day of your choice. Unless stated otherwise, this means your days or your opponent's days.
- "On your days" means a day of your own week.
- "The Grumpy Cat" (Chat ronchon) covers a cat. The Grumpy Cat is the only cat on its day that counts during end-of-game scoring. A cat covered in this way is no longer visible, but may still be consulted.
- "The Cat Tree" (L'arbre à chats) can hold up to three cats. Leave them visible: each of them counts at the end of the game. It is the only way to count more than one cat on a day.
End of the Game
The game ends as soon as a player has a cat on each of the days of their week.
Everyone calculates their score by adding the points of the visible cat on each of their days. The player with the best score wins.
In case of a tie, you share the victory!
Scoring Example
The rulebook gives this example:
- Marie: 1 + 6 + 4 + 3 + 5 = 19
- Berlioz: 1 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 1 + 2 + 0 = 12
