Suitable for 8 years+. 2 to 8 players.
Aim of the Game
The aim of CAT CHAOS is to be the first player to turn all of your piles of cards into complete cat-suits. It's a frantic free-for-all with everybody playing at once. Get stuck in and watch the fur fly!
Figure: four cards of the same celebri-cat make up one cat-suit (4 of the same cat).
Setting Up
Arrange the pack of cards into cat-suits (sets of 4 identical cards). You will need three cat-suits for each player, plus one extra suit.
Put any spare cards to one side – these are not needed for this game.
Shuffle the cards you will play with.
Start to deal the playing cards by placing the first four cards face up in the centre of the table. Deal the rest of the cards, face down, equally among all players.
Without looking at them, each player should divide their cards into equal piles and place them face-down in front of them. If done correctly, each player should have three piles of four cards.
Figure: example set-up for two players. Player 2 has three face-down piles above the centre row of four face-up cards; Player 1 has three face-down piles below it. The figure is captioned: "This example shows a game set up for two players."
Playing the Game
The youngest player shouts 'Meow!' to start the game.
Take a quick peek at each of your piles and decide which cat-suits you initially want to collect – this may change as the game progresses.
Build your cat-suits by swapping out cards from your piles with cards in the centre of the table. You must always put down (placing cards face up in the centre of the table) before you can pick up.
You can swap several cards from the same pile at a time, however each pile must always contain four cards and there must always be four cards in the centre of the table. Your piles should always remain separate.
You don't need to complete a cat-suit before moving onto your next pile, however swapping directly between your piles is against the rules. If you need to swap a card from one of your piles to another, you must first swap it for a card in the centre of the table before switching to a new pile and picking it up. But be quick as other players may be after the same card!
When you complete a cat-suit, shout out the name of the celebri-cat (e.g. 'Hairy Potter!') and turn your completed cat-suit pile face up in front of you.
The first player to complete all three of their cat-suits shouts out 'cat whiskers!' and is the winner.
Advanced Play
Once you've mastered the game, you can add in additional cat-suits for each player. Always ensure you add an equal number of cat-suits per player and that the piles laid out in front of you each contain 4 cards. The more cat-suits, the greater the CAT CHAOS!
