About This Game

Bonfire Party is a cooperative game where the players aim to make the biggest bonfire possible. At the call of "Bonfire Party!" everyone places matches of their choice from their hand. The fire is successfully ignited if the number of the same color match the target number of the stage. Start with stage "1" and aim to clear stage "5".

Guess each other's hand and unite your feelings for the brightest glow of the flame. Once you have made it to the largest "5" flame, try to extinguish it by aiming for "1" again.

Components

  • Rule Sheet x1
  • Red Matches x20
  • Blue Matches x20
  • Base x1
  • Flame Pieces: "1", "2", "3", "4", "5"

Preparation

  1. Each person has 5 red matches and 5 blue matches. Put the extra matches back into the box.
  2. Sit around the table and place the base in the middle of the players.
  3. Place the smallest "1" flame near the base, and place the other flame pieces beside it. The smallest flame piece is "1". It grows bigger in the order of "2", "3", "4", and "5".

Order of Play

  1. Hold your matches in one hand in a way that the other players won't be able to see it.

  2. At the call of "Bonfire Party", everyone places their chosen matches on the table at once. The number of matches that can be played at one time is from 1 to 3. You may choose how many matches of which color you want to play. Think about the choice of matches before the call.

Note: During the game, you may engage in conversation, but do not say anything specific about the number or color of matches.

  3. The first "target number" is the flame piece "1" that you set up in preparation for the game. Add up the number of matches that everyone has played for each color. If either of the "total red matches" or "total blue matches" is the same as the target number, you have cleared the stage.

If the stage is successfully cleared, place the flame piece "1" on top of the base. Continue growing the size of the flame in this way, "2", "3", "4" and so on.

Example: There are 4 players, and the target flame piece is "1". The sum of red is 3, but the sum of blue is 1 which is the same as the target number, so you have succeeded.

Example: There are 4 players, and the target flame piece is "3". The total of red is 3 and the total of blue is also 3. Both colors are equal to the target number so it is a success.

  4. If the total number of either red or blue does not match the target number, the ignition is deemed unsuccessful. Repeat the same course of action with the same target number until you succeed.

  5. Whether you succeed or fail, the matches you played will stay on the base and will not be returned to you. As the game progresses, the matches in your hand will decrease in number.

Scoring

Let's celebrate the completion of the bonfire together!

If any player has no more matches in their hand at the beginning of the call, the game is over. The number of flame pieces placed on the base by that point is your score.

Fire Extinguishing

Once the bonfire is complete, challenge yourselves to extinguish the bonfire!

Preparation: Keep the flame "5" on the base, and collect the matches on the base and the remaining matches in your hand so that everyone has 5 matches of red and 5 matches of blue again.

How to Play: Starting with the flame piece "5," the players play matches following the same course of action as in the base game. Each time matches are successfully played, the flame is removed from the base in the reverse order, "4", "3", "2", and so on.

End of the Game: The game ends when any player has no more matches remaining in their hand. If flame "1" is successfully cleared, the bonfire is extinguished. Good job!

End of the Game

If the flame "5" is successfully cleared, the bonfire is complete!
