Rules of Play for 3 to 5 Players
Before Playing
Set up the game board: it is used to place bets in the center (on answers 1 to 6) and to track players' scores along one of the two colored tracks.
Open a deck of cards. Read the tips on the back of its case.
Each player receives a game sheet (write your first name on it; there are 6 boxes for playing 6 questions) to write on, and a "Bluffer" token for betting. One pawn per player is placed on one of the white "start" spaces of the track: it will allow the player to track their points. Have pens or pencils on hand.
Designate the Leader (or game host) for the first question of the game. Give them the screen (to hide the game sheets afterward) and a second game sheet on which to copy the exact answer (write "Answer" in the "First name" area). Afterward, players take turns being Leader for each question.
Object of the Game
A game consists of 3 rounds of 6 questions each.
At the end of each round, the best score wins.
The winner of the game is the player who wins 2 rounds.
How to Play a Question
For each question, play proceeds as follows:
1 - The Leader
places the open screen in front of them and reads aloud the question that appears in the case's window (the answer stays hidden).
2 - Each Player (including the Leader)
invents a false answer and writes it on their sheet in secret.
Tips:
If you know the true answer, invent a different answer.
Write your answer very legibly.
3 - The Leader
lifts the card slightly to copy the true answer onto the "Answer" sheet, then collects all the invented answers and gathers them with the "Answer" sheet out of sight behind the screen. They shuffle them quickly. They read the question, then give the answers one after another, assigning each a number (answer #1: "a dog", answer #2: "a lion", ...), and, of course, without naming the author.
They may reread the answers if needed (always announcing the numbers).
4 - The Other Players
then bet on the answer they consider to be true.
At the Leader's signal ("1-2-3-Vote") and, at the same moment, everyone bets with a token on the number of the chosen answer, in the center of the board.
Notes:
It is forbidden to bet on your own answer.
The Leader of the round does not bet (they have seen the answer).
Fair play — players must vote together and not wait for others' votes.
Tips for the Leader: speed, discretion
Speed: Collect, shuffle, read the answers and give the "1-2-3-Vote" signal quickly to keep the game's rhythm.
Discretion: Read the answers carefully behind the screen, out of sight of prying eyes. Read without hesitation and without commenting. You can also slightly alter the wording of an answer to make it more believable.
5. Awarding Points
The rule
- You earn 2 points for every token bet by other players on your invented answer.
- If you bet on the true answer, you also score 1 point.
The results
For each answer (starting with answer #1), the Leader announces the author's name and returns their sheet to them. The player advances their pawn by the number of points earned. When the Leader reaches the true answer, they announce it. The players who had bet on it advance their pawn one space.
Note:
If 2 answers, true or false, are identical, play continues unchanged: both sheets are read, with a different number (answer #1: "a dog", #2: "a dog", #3: "a lion"...). Points are awarded according to the general rule: the author of the sheet read as #1 receives the points placed on space 1.
Be careful not to vote for your own answer, or your bet goes to the Leader; Note: 9 times out of 10, two identical answers are... false!
The game continues with a new Leader (the player to the left), who receives the screen and the "Answer" sheet. They pull out the first card (where the previous question was), place it at the back of the deck, and reveal the next question, which they read.
End of a Round
A round ends after 6 questions: at this point in the game, the 6 boxes on your game sheet are filled in.
The player in the lead is declared the winner of the round.
In case of a tie in points, the round is awarded to each tied player.
For the next round, pawns are placed back at the start.
Each player uses the back of their game sheet or receives a new sheet to write on.
Note:
In the game, if a player reaches the end of the track, they continue counting their points by starting over from the start.
End of the Game
The player who has won 2 rounds is declared the winner.
If the 3 rounds were won by 3 different players, the winner is the winner of the last round.
You can also play a quick game of 1 or 2 rounds: ideal for a rematch.
Game Summary
A question is read.
1 - Clever! Everyone invents and secretly writes a false answer.
2 - The true answer and the false ones are now shuffled and read by the game host.
3 - Where is the true answer? Everyone votes.
Result: if other players bet on the answer you invented, they are trapped. You win!
The secret to winning! The true answers are already funny or incredible. Don't hesitate to make things up wildly to trap your opponents! Your most surprising answers will be plausible.
Game for 2 Players
Rule changes:
Each player takes a deck of cards. Simultaneously, each secretly reads their question and writes on their sheet two, or even three, proposed answers, then adds the true answer. Ready! One of the two players asks their question and gives their answers out of order. Their opponent chooses one answer, then a second, etc.… until they find the exact answer.
Score: Each wrong answer gives a point to the opponent.
Then it is the other player's turn to ask their question.
The game is played over 6 questions.
Game for 6 to 10 Players
Form two groups. They receive two different questions, invent their answers, then have the other team vote.
Some points of the rules are changed:
Each group takes a deck of cards, an "Answer" sheet, and chooses one of the 2 tracks on the board to advance on. Each player receives a pawn and their sheet. The 5 betting tokens will be used by both groups.
The Principle: simultaneously, each group secretly reads the question from their deck. Each member invents their answer, then they add the true answer. The 2 teams are ready. One of the players on the team reads their question and the answers. All the players on the other team vote simultaneously, without conferring.
Points are awarded individually according to the base rule.
In turn, the other team proposes its question and its answers to the opposing vote.
Victory is awarded according to the general rule to the player with the most points.
Variant:
Tally points by team rather than individually if the teams have the same number of players.
