How to Play
Formal Play (Ordinary Game)
First Half
-
Choose a playing piece and proceed clockwise.
-
On your turn, roll both dice and use the sum. In this case, move that many spaces. (Example) If the destination is Singapore: pay ₩100K to the bank and obtain a Deed.
However, if you roll doubles (both dice the same value), you get an extra turn. Make good use of this opportunity. (Example: you roll doubles.) You get one extra turn. Roll again!!
-
When you pass START, you receive ₩200K from the bank.
-
Only one player may buy a Deed for each space. However, players landing on a space are not required to purchase a Deed.
-
When there are 5 or 6 Deeds left, the players mutually agree to auction each Deed and the applicant pays the bank to buy it. At this time, if several people request a Deed, the person rolling highest on a pair of dice has priority.
- Golden Key, Deserted Island, Welfare Fund, Space Travel is described in detail on pages 9-12.
Second Half
-
Build a building: At the start of the SECOND HALF, you pay the bank the amount indicated on your Deed and build a villa, building, or hotel. (Tip: It is advantageous to invest all the money you have to build a building.)
Construction cost (build a building):
- Villa: ₩50K
- Building: ₩150K
- Hotel: ₩250K
-
Receive a toll: If another player's piece (plane) stops on a land owned by you, you will receive a toll as written on the back of the Deed.
Toll table (get toll rates):
- Villa 1: ₩30K
- Villa 2: ₩90K
- Building: ₩270K
- Hotel: ₩550K
- ₩6K for toll if there is no building.
(If there is no building, only the land fee is charged.)
-
Add or sell buildings: During your turn, you may build or sell additional buildings for the Deeds you have.
-
Where there is no need to build a building, you can receive tolls from the SECOND HALF.
-
If you do not have enough toll to pay to the other party, you can sell the building you own to the bank or hand over the Deed to the other party. If you sell to the bank, you receive the purchase price of the building from the bank. If the Deed is handed to another person, you cannot receive it from the other party even if there is a difference. (Example: insufficient toll/land fee for the Deed to be handed over.)
Optional Game Rules
-
Each player receives an additional ₩1M from the bank.
-
Players select one Deed in order and pay money to the bank to purchase it. The method is as follows.
[Diagram, "For 4-player game": the order of turns and the "Cert" count printed under each player. Read left to right, then the second row. Player 1 Cert x1, Player 2 Cert x2, Player 3 Cert x3, Player 4 Cert x4; Player 1 Cert x4, Player 2 Cert x3, Player 3 Cert x2, Player 4 Cert x1; Player 1 Cert x2, Player 2 Cert x2, Player 3 Cert x2, Player 4 Cert x2.]
Seoul certificates are purchased through auction at the end after purchasing all other certificates. (The Seoul certificate in the diagram is printed with a face value of 100만원, i.e. ₩1M.)
-
The game is played in the same way as the SECOND HALF of the Ordinary Game.
Other Game Tips
- To enjoy a faster game, set an end time and play the Optional Game.
- When paying tolls, be sure to pay the full amount, even if it is a small amount - and you must refuse credit.
- When paying the toll, having the owner of the Deed read the notice written on the back of the Deed and accepting the toll is useful because it will help you study the geography and history of the world.
- If you make sure to memorize the English words written on the Golden Key, it will be a simple English study.
Golden Key
- When you reach the 'Golden Key' space, take the top card of the Golden Key deck. After completing the instructions, put the cards back on the bottom of the draw pile.
- The 'Preferential Ticket' is kept by the player until used, and presented to the other party at the most important time to pass free of charge. After use, return to the Golden Key deck. (Put it back to the bottom of the deck.)
- 'Regular Global Income Tax', 'Crime Prevention Expenses', and 'Building Repair Expenses' is effective from the SECOND HALF and the money is paid to the bank.
- 'Half-Price Sale' is valid for both the first and SECOND HALF, and you must sell the most expensive property to the bank at half price. (However, in the case of the SECOND HALF, the building is included in the sale.)
- If you pass through the starting point in the process of fulfilling the card instructions, you must receive a monthly salary.
- Deserted Island Escape card can be kept and used at a later time. It can be sold.
Space Travel
- When you arrive at the Space Travel space, take the Columbia and go to the Space Station. At this time, pay the toll fee of ₩200K to the person with the 'COLUMBIA' Deed. If there is no owner of 'COLUMBIA', boarding is free.
- When it's your next turn, you can go wherever you want without having to throw the dice.
Deserted Island
-
When you arrive on the Deserted Island, you will be trapped for 3 turns.
-
How to escape from the Deserted Island: While trapped, when it is your turn, throw the dice: if they are doubles you escape the Deserted Island. Throw the dice once more, and move as much as the number that came out. If both dice roll different numbers, the turn passes to the next player.
Tip: In the SECOND HALF, it is advantageous to be trapped on the Deserted Island. But when it is your turn, you must throw the dice and if you get a double, you must leave the Deserted Island.
Welfare Fund
- When you arrive at the Social Welfare Fund section, donate ₩150K to the Social Welfare Fund reception desk.
- Social Welfare Funds accumulate until you take the money from the Social Welfare Fund reception desk.
- Anyone who arrives at the Social Welfare Fund reception desk can take the collected funds. If there is no donation, you cannot receive social welfare funds.
Secret Operations
Secret Operation #1: Operation Carnegie
Carnegie, the American steel king, predicted that the steel industry would be in the limelight among businesses during World War I. As a result of his intensive investment in the steel industry, he became the world's No. 1 steel king with great success.
During the FIRST HALF, find out where a group of people often accompany you, and then focus on buildings or hotels in that area during the SECOND HALF.
Secret Operation #2: Operation Ford
Ford, which dominated the American automobile industry, quickly made and sold a cool, modern car 'Mustang' when the old car shape lost popularity and sales fell.
If the opponent's piece comes close to your Deed, quickly sell the building elsewhere and build a hotel in front of it, and you will have a successful outcome.
Secret Operation #3: Operation 36
Among the secret military strategies handed down from China, there is the 'Running Away' strategy.
During the SECOND HALF, when you arrive on 'Space Travel', you will pay your salary and enter the 'Deserted Island'. If you do not roll doubles after 3 times, you can rest comfortably by receiving only the toll fee from the opponents. (However, a brave person will never use Operation 36, and bet on a fair game - right?)
Secret Operation #4: Operation Lincoln
Lincoln, who was honest and hardworking, appealed for the emancipation of the slaves after becoming the President of the United States, but the southerners opposed it and the Civil War broke out. President Lincoln attacked the Confederate States, who had strengthened the Confederacy by gathering many soldiers and cannons, and occupied them one by one.
Select the most promising places in the Deeds you have, concentrate on constructing buildings or hotels, and then wait. It may be more effective to build a group of houses in a few locations than to build one villa in each corner of the world.
Secret Operation #5: Operation Normandy
During World War II, Germany won many victories and the war turned against the Allies, requiring many soldiers and supplies to be on battlefields around the world. At that time, General Eisenhower did not use his Elite army (a strong army that undergone formal training) in this difficult situation - but waited and landed in Normandy, France, and eventually won the war.
If you have the chance to use the Golden Key, do not use it just anywhere. Wait and become a great General, who knows how to use it appropriately at the most important time.
