Object
Earn the most Lifestyle points to win.
Setup
-
Each player takes one Pawn and places it on the home row of the game board. Any unused Pawns are not used during the game.
-
Shuffle the Lifestyle deck and deal five cards to each player. Place the deck near the game board.
-
Stack the three Bonus Experience tokens, face down, on the indicated area on the game board.
-
Take turns entering your player information into the NOSEDIVE GAME APP.
IMPORTANT: the device used in this game will always be passed clockwise, and players must not change their seating order once the game begins.
-
The NOSEDIVE GAME APP randomly selects one player to start the game as the Influencer. In subsequent rounds, the Influencer will be the player with the highest Social Score. The Influencer takes the Influencer token and places it in front of them.
4-Player Setup Example (printed diagram): Green, Purple, Blue and Yellow players are seated around the game board, which holds the Bonus Experience tokens, with the Lifestyle deck beside it, the Influencer token and the NOSEDIVE GAME APP device placed as shown.
Gameplay
The game is played in three rounds, and each round consists of two phases.
-
LIFESTYLE PHASE: Players take turns performing actions, then collecting Lifestyle cards in order to accumulate Lifestyle points.
At the beginning of each Lifestyle phase, the Influencer (player with the highest Social Score) takes one card per player from the Lifestyle deck without revealing them to the other players. Then, the Influencer arranges these cards into separate piles, face down, near the game board before choosing two of them to turn face up.
Example: In a four-player game, the Influencer starts four separate card piles, before turning two cards face up.
-
EXPERIENCE PHASE: Players use the NOSEDIVE GAME APP to give and rate Experiences to raise their Social Score.
Lifestyle Card Types
- SOCIAL (x30) — Contribute toward your Lifestyle point total at the end of the game.
- WORK (x30) — Contribute toward your Lifestyle point total at the end of the game.
- HOME (x30) — Contribute toward your Lifestyle point total at the end of the game.
- DOUBLE DAMAGE (x6) — Increases the severity of Social Score penalties during the Experience phase.
- LOSE 1 POINT (x12) — Subtracts one Lifestyle Point from your end-game total.
How to Play: Lifestyle Phase
During the Lifestyle phase, each player take three turns—beginning with the Influencer. At the start of each turn, including their first, the Influencer flips one Bonus Experience token face up and places it on the indicated area of the game board, above the +1 Experience space.
On every turn, players may either move their Pawn to a different space on the game board and take the associated action, or move their Pawn to an empty space in the home row and draw one card from the top of the Lifestyle deck.
When moving to a space occupied by other Pawns, a player must give one card from their hand to each other player occupying that space. If a player does not have enough cards to do this, they must move their Pawn to a different space.
NOTE: This rule doesn't apply to the home row.
For instructions on what to do when there are no more face-down Bonus Experience tokens, see SELECTING LIFESTYLE PILES on page 8.
Action Spaces
- +1 EXPERIENCE: When you move to this space, collect one face-up Bonus Experience token. You may collect only one Bonus Experience token per round, and this token awards you an additional Experience option to give during the Experience phase of this round.
- 1 DOWN: When you move to this space, place one Lifestyle card from your hand onto a pile of your choice, face down.
- 1 UP / 1 DOWN: When you move to this space, place one Lifestyle card from your hand onto a pile of your choice, face up. Then, place one Lifestyle card from your hand onto a different pile of your choice, face down. These cards must be placed on separate piles.
- 2 UP: When you move to this space, place two Lifestyle cards from your hand onto two different piles of your choice, face up. These cards must be placed on separate piles.
- DRAW 2: When you move to this space, draw two cards from the top of the Lifestyle deck into your hand.
- DRAW 1 / 1 UP: When you move to this space, draw one card from the top of the Lifestyle deck into your hand. Then, place one Lifestyle card from your hand onto a pile of your choice, face up.
- HOME ROW: Draw one card from the Lifestyle deck.
NOTE: Cards should always be placed onto the piles in a manner that allows the Lifestyle stars on all the face-up Lifestyle cards to be visible to all players. Players may not look at cards that have been played face down onto piles.
Selecting Lifestyle Piles
-
When there are no more face-down Bonus Experience tokens for the Influencer to place above the +1 Experience space, this means that each player has taken three turns, and players must now select Lifestyle piles.
Example: At the beginning of the Influencer turn there are no more face-down Bonus Experience tokens. Each player will now collect a Lifestyle pile.
-
Taking turns in order from lowest to highest Social Score, players select Lifestyle piles, collecting all of the Lifestyle cards from the selected pile and placing them on the table in front of them, face up—even cards that were previously placed face down. Lifestyle cards collected by players will be scored at the end of the game.
NOTE: Having a high Social Score provides you with several advantages during the game, but means that you will select your Lifestyle pile after other players, and you may even be forced to take the final remaining Lifestyle pile. Remember this when taking your turns!
Example: Korby has the lowest Social Score, and gets to choose a Lifestyle pile first. Korby chooses the third pile, hoping that the face-down cards are valuable and avoiding the negative face-up cards in the other piles.
-
Once players have all selected their Lifestyle piles, continue to the second phase of the round: The EXPERIENCE PHASE.
How to Play: Experience Phase
During the Experience phase, players use the NOSEDIVE GAME APP to give each other Experiences, then rate the Experiences they've been given. Giving other players their most favorable Experience will raise your Social Score, while giving players their least favorable Experience will lower your Social Score.
The Experience Phase consists of the following steps, taken in order:
- In the NOSEDIVE GAME APP, select "Begin Experience Phase."
- Respond to the in-app prompts, noting any players who have collected Bonus Experience tokens or "Double Damage" cards this round by tapping the buttons next to their name. Then, all players discard "Double Damage" cards and return the Bonus Experience tokens face down to the indicated area of the game board.
- Select "Give Experiences" and follow the in-app prompts to give Experiences to one another. This process must be carried out discreetly, as indicated by the app. When all players have given Experiences, select "Rate Experiences."
- Place your device on the table. Players are directed to read the Experiences they've been given out loud, then choose their MOST and LEAST desirable Experience. While this is done publicly, players may not discuss the Experiences given to a player until that player has made their ratings.
NOTE: If a player with a high Social Score likes your Experience, your Social Score will get boosted more than if a low Social Score player likes your Experience.
Once all players have rated their Experiences, the NOSEDIVE GAME APP calculates each player's new Social Score.
Return all Bonus Experience tokens to their starting location, face down. Any Lifestyle cards that players have remaining in their hand from the previous round are kept. Finally, pass the Influencer token to the player with the highest Social Score. This player is the Influencer for the next round, and will begin the next Lifestyle phase. This process is repeated for two more rounds, with each having a Lifestyle Phase and an Experience Phase. Then, the game is over.
End of the Game
At the end of three rounds, the game is over. Players score their collected Lifestyle cards:
-
Discard any Lifestyle cards that have more stars than your final Social Score.
Example: Chris ends the game with a Social Score of 2.784 and must discard any Lifestyle cards with three, four, or five Lifestyle stars.
-
Receive one Lifestyle point for each star on your remaining Lifestyle cards.
-
Add two Lifestyle points to your total for every set of Home, Work, and Social Lifestyle cards you have.
Example: Chris has three Home cards, two Work cards, and two Social cards, which make two sets—adding four points to Chris's total.
-
Subtract one Lifestyle point for every "Lose 1 Point" card you've collected, to determine your final point total.
The player with the most Lifestyle points at the end of the game is the winner! In case of a tie, the tied player with the highest Social Score is the winner.
