Card Anatomy
Each card in this set uses the same layout as the base game's action cards (see "Anatomy of the Action Cards" in the Bier Pioniere rulebook):
- Upper green area: icons in columns. A lightning-bolt icon marks an immediate effect, followed by a colon and the effect. A barrel with a number is a number of barrels to take. A barrel with a downward arrow is a number of barrels to move to the cellar. A circular arrow with a number is a number of rotations. A lightbulb icon is a lightbulb (base rulebook: lightbulbs enable improved bonus actions and count for final scoring).
- Purple area: a beer delivery order. The left side lists the beer tiles and barrels to deliver (a barrel with a minus sign is a number of barrels to deliver). A colon separates the requirement from the reward on the right. Where a line divides the purple area, the item below the line is a bonus that applies only if the Fuhrpark icon (the truck fleet extension, named "Truck fleet" in the base rulebook) has been built.
- Lower white text box: a one-time action, played as a white card and then discarded.
Icon Readings Used in This Set
- Beer tile labelled "Bier": any type of beer (the base rulebook: "If only the word BEER is mentioned, any type can be delivered").
- Named beer tiles (Pils, Weizen, Export, Stark): that beer type.
- Barrel with a number: barrels (base rulebook: "Take X barrels").
- Barrel with a minus sign: barrels to deliver.
- Barrel with a downward arrow: move barrels to the cellar (base rulebook: "Move X barrels ↓").
- Coin: coins.
- Star with a number: victory points.
- Green card with a number: cards.
- Lightbulb: lightbulb icon (base rulebook: lightbulbs enable improved bonus actions and count for final scoring).
- Circular arrow with a number: rotations (base rulebook: "Apply X rotations").
- Lightning bolt: the immediate-effect (flash) icon (base rulebook).
- Cube with a green arrow: the cube moved one step along the brewery progress track (base rulebook, action 1.3). Reading.
- Hand holding a face-down card: take a card from the face-down draw pile (base rulebook, "face down draw pile").
Flaschenöffner
Card art: a bottle opener (Flaschenöffner), labelled "Flaschenöffner" in the grey panel. This card has the Roman numeral "II" in its corner. The purple area of this card is blank.
Upper green area (printed icons):
[lightning bolt] : [green card: 1] [coin: 2]
English reading of the upper area: Immediate effect: take 1 card and receive 2 coins.
Printed text (German, verbatim):
Führe 1 Mal [hand holding a face-down card] aus. Es muss [Pils] dabei sein!
English translation:
Perform 1 time [take a card from the face-down draw pile]. A [Pils] must be included!
Notes
- "Es muss Pils dabei sein" is rendered as printed. The base rulebook does not describe this phrase, so the transcriber reads it as a condition that a Pils tile must be part of the action. Reading.
- The card's purple area is blank in the image, so the card has no delivery order.
Johann Schlegel
Card art: portrait of Johann Schlegel, with the name plate "Johann Schlegel" in the grey panel. This card has the Roman numeral "II" in its corner.
Upper green area (printed icons):
[barrel: 1] (second column, green number) [barrel with downward arrow: 1] (third column) [lightning bolt] : [green card: 1]
English reading of the upper area:
- Take 1 barrel.
- Move 1 barrel to the cellar.
- Immediate effect (lightning bolt): take 1 card.
Printed text (German, verbatim):
Führe 1 Mal [hand holding a face-down card] aus. Nimm dafür nur [star: 1]. Jeder Mitspieler: [star: -1]
English translation:
Perform 1 time [take a card from the face-down draw pile]. Take only [1 victory point] for this. Each other player: [-1 victory point]
Notes
- The phrase "Nimm dafür nur 1" is rendered as printed: the card limits what is taken for the action to 1 victory point. The transcriber is unsure of the exact scope of "nur" in this context. Reading.
- "Jeder Mitspieler" is rendered as "each other player", since the instruction is directed at the players other than the one who plays the card.
- The purple area of this card is blank in the image.
Frederick Pabst
Card art: portrait of Frederick Pabst, with the name plate "Frederick Pabst" in the grey panel. This card has the Roman numeral "II" in its corner. The card is partly covered by the adjacent card in the publisher's "Cards 1-3" composite. The upper green area is blank as far as it is visible. The purple area is hidden and not visible.
Printed text (German, partly visible):
Gib ein [star: -1] [cube with green arrow] un[illegible]
English translation (partly visible):
Give 1 [victory point: -1] [move cube one step along the progress track] and [illegible]
Notes
- The lower text of the card continues under the adjacent card and cannot be read. The rest of the text is marked [illegible] and is not inferred.
- The purple area is not visible in the publisher's composite, so the beer delivery order for this card is [illegible].
- The "Gib ein [star: -1]" line is read as printed: the card asks the player to give a victory point cost (-1) as part of its effect. The exact wording of the rest of the line is [illegible].
Friedrich Boden
Card art: portrait of Friedrich Boden, with the name plate "Friedrich Boden" in the white panel. This card has the Roman numeral "II" in its corner. The upper green area is blank as far as it is visible. The card is partly covered by the adjacent card in the publisher's "Cards 1-3" composite.
Printed text (German, partly visible):
Für [card icon: grey card with purple section] mit 2 oder [illegible] du danach 1 [barrel] wi[illegible] KELLER stellen.
English translation (partly visible):
For [card icon: grey card with purple section] with 2 or [illegible], then you [illegible] place 1 [barrel] [illegible] into the CELLAR.
Notes
- The German word "KELLER" means cellar; the base rulebook's cellar is the same location as "move barrels to the cellar".
- The middle of the sentence is covered by the adjacent card and is marked [illegible]. The purple area of this card is not visible.
- The "[card icon: grey card with purple section]" symbol is read as a card with a purple beer delivery area. Reading.
- The card's lower text continues beyond the visible part of the image and is not inferred.
Josef Schülein
Card art: portrait of Josef Schülein, with the name plate "Josef Schülein" in the grey panel. This card has the Roman numeral "II" in its corner. The lower white text box is blank.
Upper green area (printed icons):
[lightbulb] (first column) [barrel with downward arrow: 1] (third column) [circular arrow: 1] (fourth column)
English reading of the upper area:
- 1 lightbulb.
- Move 1 barrel to the cellar.
- Apply 1 rotation.
Purple area (printed icons):
[3 ≠] [Bier], [barrel: -3] : [star: 6]
English reading of the purple area: Deliver 3 different beer tiles (the "≠" sign after the 3 means "different") and 3 barrels, where the first beer tile is labelled "Bier" (any type). Reward: 6 victory points.
Notes
- The white text box is blank. The card has no printed text, so the reward and the requirement come entirely from the icons above.
- The "3 ≠" reading is the transcriber's, following the "≠" convention on the sibling set's cards. The base rulebook does not print this glyph.
- The "Bier" tile is read as one beer tile of any type, following the base rulebook's convention for the word BEER.
Emil Schandein
Card art: portrait of Emil Schandein, with the name plate "Emil Schandein" in the grey panel. This card has the Roman numeral "II" in its corner. The upper green area is blank.
Purple area (printed icons):
[2 ≠] [Bier], [barrel: -2] [Fuhrpark] : [star: 5]
English reading of the purple area: Deliver 2 different beer tiles (the "≠" sign after the 2 means "different") and 2 barrels, where the first beer tile is labelled "Bier" (any type). Bonus if the truck fleet (Fuhrpark) is built: 5 victory points.
Printed text (German, verbatim):
Gib ein [Bier] ab und erhalte: [blocking token] und [blocking token] und [green card: 1].
English translation:
Give 1 [Bier] and receive: [blocking token] and [blocking token] and [1 card].
Notes
- The "2 ≠" reading and the "Fuhrpark" bonus are the transcriber's readings, following the convention set out in the icon list above. The base rulebook does not print the "≠" glyph and does not describe a truck-fleet bonus of this kind, so these are disclosed readings, not confirmed rules.
- The two blocking-token icons are shown as two separate tokens, which is how the card prints them.
- "Bier" in the give-line is read as one beer tile of any type, following the base rulebook's convention for the word BEER.
