Contents

1 large Bello figure, 1 food bowl, 1 pair of tweezers shaped like cat paws, 20 game cards, 24 coloured bones (red, blue, yellow, white), game rules.

Batteries (Notes for Parents)

The original sheet headlines this part "Caution – battery notes for parents". It is reproduced in full because the figure runs on batteries.

Inserting the Batteries

The empty food bowl is turned over and the battery compartment is opened. You need 2 × LR14 1.5 V batteries (not included). Make sure the batteries are inserted correctly with their poles aligned.

Do Not Use Rechargeable Batteries

We always recommend using new batteries. Never mix new batteries with old ones, or batteries of different types. Protect the game from moisture.

  • Use only the recommended battery type. We do not recommend using rechargeable batteries.
  • Should you nevertheless recharge the batteries, this should be done by an adult.
  • The batteries are inserted as shown in the illustration. The (+) and (−) poles must be positioned correctly.
  • Never use old and new batteries at the same time.
  • Never mix different battery types.
  • Never try to recharge batteries that are not rechargeable at all.
  • Never throw batteries into a fire.
  • Used batteries must be disposed of as hazardous waste.
  • Remove the batteries from the game if it will not be used for a longer period.
  • Take older, used batteries out of the game.
  • Do not create contact between the two poles of a battery.
  • Batteries should always be inserted into the game under adult supervision.
  • Recharging rechargeable batteries should always be carried out by an adult.

Set-Up and Preparation

Figure labels: Food bowl and Projections.

  1. Install Bello on his food bowl by pressing the holes on his front paws onto the projections on the food bowl. Then fix the white projections on the inside.
  2. Slowly turn Bello's head to the left and carefully push it back (see illustration).
  3. Mix all the bones well and place them in the food bowl.
  4. Shuffle the cards and place them face down as a stack on the table.
  5. Slide the On/Off switch to "On".
  6. The youngest player begins; play then continues in turn.

The Game

Game Idea

Bello is asleep in front of his food bowl. The players slip into the roles of cats and pinch bones out of his bowl. The problem is that they must not wake him, because when he wakes up he bites at once!

Game Play

The player whose turn it is turns over the top card. The card shows how many bones of which colour the player must pinch out of the food bowl. The player then takes the tweezers and fishes the indicated bones out of the bowl as carefully as possible. Of course, Bello must not be woken in the process. However, sometimes Bello growls in his sleep and startles the players.

If Bello does not wake up, the player may place the bones they have won in front of them. The next player is then on turn.

If Bello wakes up, however, he leaps forward and tries to bite the player. Then you should make yourself scarce. However, you have now lost too!

Winning the Game

The game is set up anew and the remaining players then continue playing. This goes on until all but one have been eliminated. That player is then the winner.

Variant

The game can also be played over several rounds. In that case no player is eliminated. If Bello bites, however, the player must put all the bones they won in this round back into the bowl. The game ends after the agreed number of rounds, or when Bello's bowl is empty. The player with the most bones is the winner!

Game Tip

Every player should take care to touch the food bowl as little as possible when pinching bones. That way the chance is greatest that Bello does not wake up and bite!
