Object of Game

To be the first player to accumulate a score of 10 points.

Materials

  • Playing Field (called Battling Top Arena)
  • Battling Top Spinners (Spindles and Discs)
  • Battling Top Pullers
  • Strings
  • Pegs
  • Name Labels

Preparation

Assembling the Battling Top Spinners (See Diagram 1)

A. Insert the Battling Top Spindle into the matching color Disc with its grooved side facing down and twist tightly.

B. Attach a Name Label.

Assembling the Battling Top Pullers (See Diagram 2)

Make a triple knot at one end of string. Thread other side of string through wide side of hole on Battling Top Pullers as in Diagram 2.

Battling Top Arena

The Battling Top Arena is placed in the center of the table. Each player selects a score peg and places it into the hole marked Number 1 (See Diagram 3) at his scoring corner of the Arena.

The Play

Each player selects 1 Battling Top Spinner and 1 Battling Top Puller.

A player is chosen as the Referee.

Before starting each round of play, each player takes his Battling Top Spinner and his Battling Top Puller (See Diagram 4), and inserts the end of the string into the slot of the Battling Top Spinner. He then winds the string around the Spindle of the Battling Top Spinner, and snaps the Battling Top Puller onto the Spindle.

Positioning the Battling Tops in the Arena (See Diagram 5)

Each player now slides the Battling Top Puller and the attached Battling Top Spinner through his opening in the Battling Top Arena so that the Spindle rests in the 2 grooves.

The Referee calls "GO!" and all the players pull their Battling Top Pullers to launch their Battling Top Spinners into the Arena to battle each other.

Scoring

A player scores one point if his Battling Top is the last one spinning in the Arena. At the end of each round, the winning player registers his score by moving his peg one space on his scoring corner of the Arena.

The Winner

The first player who accumulates 10 points is the winner.
