Components

  • 4 pads
  • Chocolate sheet (cut here)
    • Type
  • 2 score boards (double-sided)
    • Type
  • 1 dry-erase marker
  • 4 drawer boxes
  • Basic bonbons — of 4 types
  • Special bonbons — see page x
  • Garnishes — of 4 types, on top of bonbons
  • Empty spaces — make you lose points at the end

Setup

  1. Choose 1 score sheet type, separate it from the pad and place it somewhere all players can see it. Assign a column to each player by writing their name on it. For your first game, we recommend sheet A.
  2. Choose 1 bonbon sheet type and give 1 to each player. Alternatively, each player may take any bonbon sheet type. For your first game, we recommend sheets A and B.
  3. The first active player is the youngest. Give them the pencil.

Example: In this 4-player game, players 1 and 2 are using sheet A. Players 3 and 4 are using sheets B and C respectively.

Summary

Cut bonbons and place them on your tray as best as you can to gain victory points (VP) according to the objectives on the score sheet before the game ends. Whoever has the most VP wins.

How to Play

The game is played in rounds. In each round, perform the following steps in order:

  1. Choose a Cut Type
  2. Cut and Place a Piece
  3. Score Speed Objectives (if any)

1. Choose a Cut Type

The active player chooses an available cut type from the score sheet and marks its usage by crossing out one of the squares below it. If all of the squares below a cut type are crossed, that cut type is no longer available and cannot be chosen.

2. Cut and Place a Piece

At the same time, each player (including the active player) makes the chosen cut on their bonbon sheet and places their piece face up on their tray. Your tray are the pieces that you cut and place face up adjacent to one another on your play area.

Cutting Rules

  • You may only cut horizontal or vertically.
  • You must take at least one of the spaces on the edge of the sheet.

Example: If you had to cut a single space, you could cut any of the spaces highlighted in green since they are on the edge of the sheet. You could not cut any of the spaces marked with <>.

  • It's not advisable to divide the sheet in two parts. If you do so, keep the smaller part and place it face down next to your tray. You will lose 1 VP for each of its spaces. The sheet cannot remain joined by corners.

Example: You cut the indicated square, separating the spaces highlighted in red from the sheet. You place them face down next to your tray. You will lose 4 VP for them at the end of the game.

  • If at least one player cannot make the chosen cut type, the game ends immediately (no one cuts and places). Proceed to End of the Game.

Placement Rules

  • You may rotate the piece however you wish.
  • The piece must touch at least one of the sides of any space already on your tray. You cannot place the piece by only touching another one corner to corner.
  • Once placed, the piece cannot be moved again.

3. Score Speed Objectives (if any)

Once all players have cut and placed their piece, each player checks if they have completed 1 or more speed objectives <> from the score sheet (if any). If 1 or more players are the first ones to complete the same speed objective <> on the same round, all of them gain the highest VP. Anyone who completes it on any future round, gains the lowest VP.

End of the Round

If there is only one cut type available (regardless of how many uses it has left), proceed to End of the Game.

Otherwise, each player passes their bonbon sheet to the player on their left and receives the bonbon sheet from the player on their right. The active player passes the pencil to the player on their left. Start a new round.

End of the Game

The game ends immediately if at least one player cannot do the chosen cut type (no one cuts and places) or at the end of the round in which there is only one cut type available (regardless of how many uses it has left).

Example: At the end of the round, this is the only cut type available; the game ends immediately.

Each player gains and loses VP according to the scoring sheet. Whoever has the most VP wins. In case of a tie, the player who lost the least VP wins. If the tie persists, victory is shared.

Important

Separate pieces by type and store them in their corresponding boxes. Also keep any remaining parts of the sheets used in the game. You can use all of these components in the Permanent Mode.

Appendix: Scoring Sheets

<> Speed Objectives: Scored in step 3 of the round.

<> Final Objectives: Scored at the end of the game.

Adjacency: It's always orthogonal, never diagonal.

Group: Features (bonbons, garnishes, etc) connected orthogonally.

Shape/Pair: Each bonbon/garnish can only be part of a single shape/pair. Shapes/pairs can be in any orientation.

Sheet A

1 VP for each bonbon in your biggest bonbon group of the indicated type.

The first players to have at least 2 garnishes of the same type anywhere on their tray gain 8 VP. Whoever achieves this in any future round gains 4 VP.

The first players to have an area of at least 6×5 (or 5×6) spaces on their tray gain 10 VP. Whoever achieves this in any future round gains 5 VP.

-2 VP for each empty space and -1 VP for each space gained by dividing the bonbon sheet in two parts.

Scoring Example

This player scores:

  • 6 VP for his group of 6 brown bonbons
  • 4 VP for his group of 4 green bonbons
  • 3 VP for his group of 3 red bonbons
  • 4 VP for his group of 4 striped bonbons
  • He never had 2 garnishes of each type, so he never gained VP for that objective
  • 10 VP for being the first to form a 6×5 area
  • -8 VP for his 4 empty spaces

TOTAL = 19 VP

Sheet B

3 VP for each row and each column that has at least a bonbon of each type anywhere within it.

1 VP for each of these shapes formed by matching bonbons.

3 VP for each of these shapes formed by matching bonbons.

6 VP for each of these shapes formed by matching bonbons.

4 VP for each pair of adjacent garnishes of the indicated types.

Scoring Example

This player gains:

  • 6 VP for his 2 rows with the 4 bonbon types
  • 3 VP for his column with the 5 bonbon types
  • 2 VP for his 2 double shapes
  • 3 VP for his triple shape
  • 12 VP for his 2 quad shapes
  • He didn't form any garnish pair, so he doesn't gain any VP for that objective
  • -6 VP for his 3 empty spaces
  • -3 VP for the 3 spaces he separated from the bonbon sheet

TOTAL = 17 VP

Sheet C

4 VP for each group of at least 3 bonbons of the indicated type.

2 VP for each garnish in your biggest garnish group.

4 VP for each gap of any size that is surrounded by its 4 sides. Diagonal spaces do not matter.

Scoring Example

This player gains:

  • 4 VP for his brown bonbon group
  • 4 VP for his green bonbon group
  • 8 VP for his 2 red bonbon groups
  • 4 VP for his striped bonbon group
  • 12 VP for his biggest garnish group
  • 6 VP for his 2 surrounded gaps
  • -2 VP for his empty spaces

TOTAL = 39 VP

Sheet D

1 VP for each bonbon that isn't adjacent to the same bonbon type.

The first players to have at least 1 of each of the 3 indicated garnishes anywhere within the same row/column gain 6 VP. Whoever achieves this in any future round gains 3 VP.

1 VP for every 2 spaces in your biggest square area.

Scoring Example

This player gains:

  • 11 VP for his 11 isolated bonbons
  • 6 VP for being the first to have one of the garnish combinations in the same row/column
  • 3 VP for having one of the garnish combinations in a row/column after another player achieved this in a previous round
  • 8 VP for his biggest square area (4×4)
  • -4 VP for his empty spaces

TOTAL = 24 VP

Appendix 2: Bonbon Sheets

Double Spaces (Sheet B): Spaces that contain 2 bonbons that cannot be separated, they must be taken as part of the same cut. With a single space cut, you would not be able to take any of the 2 bonbons that are part of a double space.

Special Bonbons

These bonbons don't appear on the scoring sheets, so they cannot be used to score anything (unless stated otherwise).

Wrapped Bonbons (Sheet C): You can cut and place them on your tray as normal. At the end of the game, for each of your wrapped bonbons, choose what basic bonbon (without garnishes) it counts as. During the game, they do not give any benefits.

Spicy Bonbons (Sheet D): You can cut them, but they are not placed on your tray. If you get these bonbons as part of a cut, you must separate them and place them face up next to your tray. At the end of the game, place each of them on an empty space to cancel its -2 VP penalty. Any non-placed spicy bonbons don't do anything.

Permanent Mode

Standard mode rules are the same, with the following changes:

Setup

Instead of using the bonbon sheets, place the 4 piece boxes with the pieces from previous games within reach of all players.

Note: We recommend playing the standard mode 3 times before playing this mode.

How to Play

1. Choose a Cut Type

After the active player has chosen and marked a cut type on the score sheet, they must do the following steps in order:

  1. Without looking, they take 1 piece per player plus 3 from the box of the chosen type. For example, in a 3-player game, they must take 6 pieces.
  2. Choose and place face up 1 piece per player. They return the unchosen pieces back to their corresponding box. For example, in a 3-player game, they must place 3 pieces on the table and return the rest to their box.

2. Choose and Place a Piece

This step replaces the Cut and Place a Piece step.

Starting with the player to the left of the active player and proceeding clockwise, each player chooses one of the available pieces and places it face up on their tray. The active player will be the last to choose, taking the last one available.

If there aren't enough pieces of the chosen type, the active player takes 1 or more random bonbon sheet parts from previous games and cuts as many pieces as needed, ignoring the cutting rules, but making sure of not cutting double spaces in half and of separating spicy bonbons as normal.

All other rules remain the same.
