What Are You Trying To Do?

Be the first player to place all five of your chips on the board OR three of your chips in a row by correctly matching which player said which answer (on your turn) and writing the roller's favorite answer (on everyone else's turn).

How Do You Set-Up The Game?

  1. Place the board in the middle of the play area and decide whether to play on the blue side or the red side of the board. (The only difference between the sides is the photos.)
  2. Place the corresponding deck of 62 photo cards face down in the middle of the board.
  3. Every player takes an answer sheet and pencil and writes their name at the top.
  4. After detaching the marker chips from their sheets, every player selects five chips of a single color and places them in front of their play area.
  5. Every player rolls the die. High roller goes first. Play moves clockwise.

How Do You Play?

  1. Turn over the top photo card and place it face up in the middle of the board.
  2. Roll the die and read aloud the corresponding question from the Roller's Menu surrounding the board.
    • This question relates to the photo card in play.
  3. All players, except the roller, write an answer for the question.
    • There are NO right or wrong answers!
  4. All answers are collected, shuffled and read aloud by the player to the right of the roller.
    • It helps to read aloud the question again before the answers are masked.
    • Read ALL of the answers before the roller starts guessing "who said what."
    • Players should be discreet when answers are read aloud. You may give the roller an easy guess!
    • (Bullet text in the photograph is blurred; wording is the closest legible reading.)
  5. After hearing ALL of the answers, the roller must FIRST pick his/her favorite answer, and THEN guess which player wrote which answer.
    • Players do not reveal their answers until the roller guesses every answer. This is the most important rule!
  6. The reader reveals the results.
    • The player who wrote the roller's favorite answer places one of their five chips on the space on the board that matches the photo card in play.
    • In a four or five-player game, if the roller matches 2+ answers correctly, the roller places one of their chips on ANY open space on the board.
    • In a six-player game, the roller must match 3+ answers correctly to place a chip on the board.

Play moves clockwise.

How Do You Win?

The first player to EITHER place all five of their chips on the board OR three of their chips in a row on the board (vertically, diagonally or horizontally) wins the game!

  • Two players can win at the same time if the roller and the player who wrote the favorite answer play their final chip on a single turn.
    • (Bullet text in the photograph is blurred; wording is the closest legible reading.)

Notes On Play

  • There are NO right or wrong answers. Just write neatly!
  • If the die keeps landing on the same number, simply choose any question from the Roller's Menu.
  • Do not be too specific with your answers. You may give the roller an easy guess!
  • To help remember the answers on your turn, you can request to hear the answers again and/or write key words on the back of your answer sheet.
  • There is no time limit... but try not to take all day when writing and/or guessing answers!
  • TEAM PLAY: If more than six people want to play the game, simply have players form teams of two.
  • The numbers on the answer pad do not correspond to the numbered questions. When writing answers, simply start in the first space and continue in order.
  • In the unlikely event you placed a chip on an open space and the photo card for that space is played on a later turn, your chip will get bumped off the board if you are the roller or if you don't write the roller's favorite answer.
  • Encourage everyone to bring their own family photos the next time you play Awkward Family Photos!
