Card text, as printed:
"Sorcerers do exist" a menacing-looking old woman shouts at you, the cold stare of her blue eyes half-hidden by thick white eyebrows. "One of them is practicing dark spells in the fields just north of the village, hidden among the hills. Find him before misfortune strikes us and you."
- You can mark Side Mission P1 "Gifts of Death" in the Active Side Missions.
Reward Card: Necromancer's Hat
- Type: Armor.
- The card's rules text is not legible in the magazine photograph (it is partly covered by the Young Apprentice card). It is not transcribed here. See the gap note under "Cosma Hunt Action Cards".
Mage Card: Cosma
- The card's stat values visible in the magazine photograph are 9 (heart), 6 and 3. One stat value is partly covered. The card's ability text is covered by the miniature in the photograph and is not legible, so it is not transcribed here. See the gap note under "Cosma Hunt Action Cards".
Personal Spell Cards: Gifts of Death
- Three copies are included. Each is titled "Gifts of Death".
- The rules text of these cards is only partly legible in the magazine photograph. It is not transcribed here. See the gap note under "Cosma Hunt Action Cards".
Chamber of Wonders Contact Card: Andromeda
- The card is shown in the magazine photograph, but its rules text is not printed legibly in the magazine. It is not transcribed here.
Cosma Hunt Action Cards
Gap note: the 17 Cosma Hunt Action Cards are not printed as text in the magazine. Only one card is legible in full header form: card 1, Enchantment, Activation Number 1, Time 2 (page 17, Action Card A). On the page-3 photograph the other card faces are only partly visible, showing fragments of text and the Time values of a few cards. Cards 7 to 11 and most of the others are covered. The card text for this deck, and the full content of the Hunt Action Deck, is therefore not transcribed. Players should use the card text printed on the physical Cosma Hunt Action Cards.
Side Mission P1: Gifts of Death
Mission header: P1 Gifts of Death.
P1-1
After gathering conflicting information at the village you decide to proceed north in the direction indicated by the old blue-eyed woman. You pass several fields, climbing through the local hills, until, upon reaching a summit you see a small area leveled and covered with bricks, as if it were the base for a future construction. In the center of this area is a raised circular area, probably intended to house some altar or statue. With his back to you, immersed in reading a book, a man chants something unintelligible. However, as you set foot on the cobblestones everything around you changes appearance. Thick, dark smoke escapes from the seams of the paving and stays close to the ground, reaching up to your knees. The colors seem faded, almost gray, as a purple light escapes from the book the man is holding. He turns toward you and you see that same glow envelop his eyes. "I am Cosma, but many simply call me the Necromancer." His voice is thick and hoarse, has a strange accent, probably not from around here. "I am not yet able to compete with the other Black Rose mages, but thanks to you my experiments may continue, as will my rise within the school." The last thing you see before diving into the fight are his hands taking on strange shapes as the book levitates before his eyes.

Special Rules
-
Hunt: this Mission follows the rules described in the section called Hunt Mission (see the Hunt Mission section below).
-
Start the Mission.
P1-2
By the tales of the blue-eyed woman you assumed it would be an easier confrontation. You escape just in time to save your own skins. Yet, while some of you were terrified by the encounter with the Necromancer, some were fascinated. Perhaps returning at a better time to grasp the secrets of his power could give you a considerable advantage for the future.
- Each Hero gains an Injury.
- If Cosma is not among the Available Hunts on your Campaign Sheet, put the "Young Apprentice" Event Card back in the Event Deck.
- If present, delete "Cosma De Gubernatis Hunt" from the Active Side Missions.
- Perform a Rest Phase in the Town or Village where you are to play the next Campaign Mission.
P1-3
The fight was not easy. Your minds are still troubled by what the Necromancer unleashed on you. But now that you have overpowered him and interrupted the ritual he was performing, you are convinced that he will no longer bother anyone. Moreover, the hat you have taken from him seems to have dealt a severe blow to his power. You return to the village and to the woman with the evidence of your success.
- The party gains CS. Mark it in the corresponding slot on the Campaign Sheet. (The magazine prints an icon before "CS"; the icon is not rendered here, and the quantity is not printed in the extract.)
- Remove the Event Card "Young Apprentice" from the Event deck for the rest of the Campaign.
- If present, delete "Cosma De Gubernatis Hunt" from the Active Side Missions.
- Perform a Rest Phase in the Town or Village where you are to play the next Campaign Mission.
Hunt Mission
These Missions pit Heroes against Prey, particularly powerful Enemies that use different rules from those used in regular Missions.
Unlike Campaign Missions, the management of the Prey's Actions is entrusted to a deck of cards that describes its behavior, causing it to perform movements and attacks on Heroes.
The Action Cards form a deck in which they are to be placed face-down in ascending order of Activation Number, with the number 1 card at the top of the deck and the last card at the bottom of the deck (in the Missions, this Deck is referred to by the name of the Hunt to which it belongs, e.g., Cosma Hunt Deck).
Playing a Hunt Mission
When the Prey activates, perform these steps in order:
- Resolve all effects of Skills, Traits, and Status Tokens held by the Prey that are resolved at the beginning of the Activation.
- Draw the Action Card at the top of the deck.
- On the Horologium, move the Prey Activation Token by a number of Sectors equal to the Time (hourglass) indicated on the Action Card.
- Resolve the drawn Action Card in full, making the Prey perform all the Actions indicated, and apply all its effects.
- If the card indicates to interact with a "Target Hero", select the target by following the priority of the Prey indicated at the bottom of its card, among all the Heroes within the Prey's [area icon] (the magazine prints the icon, not its name), just as is the case for Enemies with a Profile Card.
- If the card indicates a specific Target (e.g., the farthest Hero), select the indicated target Hero by ignoring the Prey's [area icon]. In case a Target cannot be selected (for example, if there are ties or no Heroes can be selected), use the priority on the Prey Card as described in the previous point.
- Place the newly resolved Action Card face up in a discard pile next to the Action Card Deck.
- Resolve all Skill, Trait, and Status Token effects held by the Prey that resolve at the end of the Activation.
- The Prey's Activation ends.
The magazine's example, Action Card A on page 17, is the Cosma Hunt card 1: Enchantment, Activation Number 1, Time 2.
Ending a Hunt Mission
A Hunt Mission ends immediately when the following conditions occur:
- 3 Heroes are KO.
- The Prey is defeated.
- When the Prey activates but has no more Action Cards to draw.
If the Prey was not defeated you do not gain any Rewards (but you can always try again!)
Usually each Hunt provides 4 specific Reward Cards; in this case the Reward Card is only one. Mark all Rewards obtained on the Campaign Sheet.
Prey Card
The Prey has a special Mission Card that shows the characteristics of the creature you face.
It replicates the format of Profile Cards, though with the following changes:
- The Prey does not have a [characteristic icon] characteristic (the magazine prints the icon, not its name) and always spends the Time indicated on the drawn Action Card.
- The Attack shown on a Prey card is to be used only if the Prey has to perform a Reaction Attack.
- All Preys have the Swiftness rule, which indicates its value (shown as an icon) for when the Activation order needs to be determined. This value does not indicate the Time at their disposal!
Hunt Missions may use various special rules, described on the Mission Cards.
Prey Card: Cosma
Card layout as printed, top to bottom:
- Name: Cosma
- Characteristic column: the first (icon-marked) value is "–"; the other values are 3, 6, 7 and 17 (the last is the Health value, shown with a heart icon).
- Attack row, left to right: an icon with value 1, an icon with value 2, and an icon with value 6+. The keywords printed under the row are Pierce and Vampirism.
- Traits and Status keywords: Fate, Immunity: Poisoned, Immunity: Blinded.
- Vampirism: for each wound inflicted by one of his Attacks, Cosma is cured by 2 Wounds.
- Push X: if Cosma inflicts at least one Wound, move the Target of his attack X Squares directly in the direction opposite Cosma's. If the Hero ends up on the edge of the Battlefield they suffer 1 Unblockable Wound for each square they cannot move.
- Target priority (icon): Marked Hero ▸ standard.
Note: the magazine prints the stat and keyword icons as graphics without names. Where this transcription says "icon", the name of the icon is not given in the source text, so the characteristic is described by its position and value rather than by name.
