Kythis, the Gatekeeper
Kythis, the Gatekeeper is a Monster card with a cost of 7 Power to defeat.
Card text:
Cost: 7 Power to defeat
Monster
When Kythis enters the center row, take the top card of the center deck and place it face down underneath him. If Kythis is banished replace him with that card. If Kythis has an Event card under him when defeated, banish it. If Kythis is banished, the Event card attempts to enter the center row and becomes the Event and is then replaced with the next card. If Kythis has a Fate card under him when defeated, it does not trigger. However, if Kythis is banished, the Fate card beneath him will trigger.
In the event that a Rat Queen enters the Center Row while Kythis is in play, set the reward card under Kythis to the side prior to shuffling the Center Row cards and placing Giant Rats on top of them. When the Giant Rat covering Kythis is banished or defeated, place the reward card back under Kythis.
Reward: Gain 5 Honor and acquire or defeat the card underneath Kythis. [You may not acquire or defeat the card under him if defeated in the void, it only triggers if he is in the center row.]
The Rat Queen reference is to the Ascension Theme Pack: Rat Queen expansion.
The bracketed sentence at the end of the Reward text is part of the BGG description and is reproduced as it appears there. It is not confirmed as printed card text.
Notes on the Card
- Under Kythis. When Kythis enters the center row, the top card of the center deck is placed face down beneath him. If Kythis is banished, that card replaces him in the center row.
- Event cards under Kythis. If Kythis is defeated while an Event card is beneath him, that Event card is banished. If Kythis is banished instead, the Event card attempts to enter the center row, becomes the Event, and is then replaced with the next card.
- Fate cards under Kythis. If Kythis is defeated while a Fate card is beneath him, the Fate card does not trigger. If Kythis is banished, the Fate card beneath him triggers.
- Rat Queen. If a Rat Queen enters the center row while Kythis is in play, the reward card under Kythis is set aside before the center row cards are shuffled and Giant Rats are placed on top of them. When the Giant Rat covering Kythis is banished or defeated, the reward card is placed back under Kythis.
- Reward. Kythis's reward is Gain 5 Honor and acquire or defeat the card underneath him. The reward triggers only when Kythis is in the center row, so the card under him cannot be acquired or defeated if he is defeated in the Void.
Reprinted Version
A later reprint of the card (BGG image 1224095, "Reprinted Promo w/ orange set symbol and ability changed to the Fate mechanism") prints different wording. Its printed text, read from the scan, is:
Cost: 7 Power
Monster
Fate: When this enters the center row, take the top card of the center deck and place it face down underneath this. If this leaves the center row, replace it with that card.
Reward: Gain 5 Honor and acquire or defeat the card underneath this without paying its cost.
The reprint is the only English card image found, and it uses the Fate keyword throughout. The text above is the original version from the BGG description; the notes on the card follow it. Use the reprint's wording only for the reprinted card.
