LEERLINGEN (Apprentice Rules Sheet)

The LEERLINGEN sheet is printed on its own card. Each entry gives the ability of one Apprentice card. The Dutch text is shown first, then the English translation.

  • Abt (Abbot): Als je een actie uitvoert bij het stadscentrum, ontvang je 1 extra loyaliteit.
    • English: When you take an action at the Town Centre, you gain 1 extra Virtue. (The sheet prints loyaliteit, which is the Dutch term for the Virtue resource; the translation uses the game's name for it.)
  • Afperser (Racketeer): Elke keer als je een schuldkaart ontvangt, ontvang je ook een gebouwkaart.
    • English: Every time you receive a debt card, you also receive a building card. (In the English edition this card's rule is "Any time you gain 1 Debt, also gain 1 Building Plan.")
  • Verdediger (Defender): Als je een actie bij het stadscentrum uitvoert, mag je 2 van je arbeiders bevrijden uit de gevangenis.
    • English: When you take an action at the Town Centre, you may release 2 of your workers from the prison.
  • Wachter (Watchman): Betaal 1 zilver minder (geen belasting) als je één van deze wachtpost-acties uitvoert: bevrijd al je al je arbeiders op spelersborden van tegenstanders of los 1 schuld af.
    • English: Pay 1 less Silver (not Tax) when you take one of these Guardhouse actions: release your workers from other players' boards, or pay off 1 debt.
    • Reading note: at the photo's resolution the sheet appears to read "al je al je" (the words "all your" twice). The translation reads one "all your", since the card's own icons show only the release-workers and pay-debt options.

Discrepancy, Abt: the LEERLINGEN sheet places the Abbot's ability at the Town Centre (stadscentrum), but the Abbot card itself is printed with the location King's Storehouse (Koninklijk Pakhuis). The card's location is followed in the Apprentice section below. The sheet is transcribed as printed and not corrected.

Apprentice Cards

Apprentice cards are placed and used as in the base game of Architects of the West Kingdom. Each card below lists its printed action location and the effect it adds. Icon meanings follow the base game.

Afperser (Racketeer)

  • Action location: none printed as a location; the card works as a standing ability.
  • Ability: Every time you receive a Debt, also receive a Building Plan. This matches the Racketeer promo in the English edition.
  • Printed icons: a black debt card, an arrow, then a green building card. A purple debt stack is shown at the right edge.

Wachter (Watchman), two copies

  • Action location: Guardhouse (Wachtpost).
  • Ability: Pay 1 less Silver (not Tax) when taking either of these Guardhouse actions: release your Workers from another player's board, or pay off 1 Debt.
  • Printed icons: a silver coin with a red X (one Silver less to pay), an arrow, then two options separated by a slash: a group of grey Worker figures (release Workers from other players' boards) and a dark door-and-return-arrow symbol (pay off Debt).

Verdediger (Defender), two copies

  • Action location: Town Centre (Stadscentrum).
  • Ability: When you take the Town Centre action, you may release 2 of your Workers from the Prison.
  • Printed icons: a tan Prison (tower) symbol, an arrow, then grey Worker figures.
  • Discrepancy note: the sheet and the card agree on this card's location.

Abt (Abbot)

  • Action location: King's Storehouse (Koninklijk Pakhuis), as printed on the card.
  • Ability: When you take the King's Storehouse action, you gain 1 Virtue in addition to the action's normal effect.
  • Printed icons: a plus sign followed by a purple Virtue banner.
  • Discrepancy note: the sheet says Town Centre; the card says King's Storehouse. The card is followed here, and the sheet's wording is kept above as printed.

Building Cards

Building cards are placed and scored as in the base game. Each card gives its cost (the top-left icons), its Victory Point value (the yellow banner at the top right) and its printed effect (the bottom icons). The card names are printed in Dutch.

Viking Markthal (Viking Market Hall)

  • Cost (as printed): 4 grey resource, 1 light-blue resource.
  • Victory Points: 2.
  • Effect: the controlling player gains 3 Gold.
  • Printed icons: three yellow Gold hexagons.

Viking Kerk (Viking Church)

  • Cost (as printed): 1 red resource, 3 brown Wood, 2 yellow Gold.
  • Victory Points: 5.
  • Effect: at game end, the controlling player gains 1 Victory Point for each level of work done advancing construction on the Cathedral.
  • Printed icons: a yellow Victory Point banner, then "PER", then a hammer (work on the Cathedral).

Viking Loods (Viking Boat House)

  • Cost (as printed): 1 red resource, 4 brown Wood, 1 grey resource.
  • Victory Points: 4.
  • Effect: the controlling player may lose 1 Virtue and gain 3 Wood.
  • Printed icons: a purple Virtue banner, an arrow, then three Wood outlines. The printed icons show no minus sign; the "lose" is taken from the English-edition Viking Boat House card.

Tafel van de Koning (King's Table Top)

  • Cost (as printed): 2 brown Wood, 2 light-blue Marble.
  • Victory Points: 4.
  • Effect: at game end, gain 1 Victory Point for every 3 Marble you have.
  • Printed icons: a yellow Victory Point banner, then "PER", then three light-blue Marble icons.

Schijnwerper (Spotlight)

  • Cost (as printed): 3 brown Wood, 1 light-blue Marble.
  • Victory Points: 4.
  • Effect: draw 3 cards and keep 1.
  • Printed icons: three card backs, an arrow, then a green card.

Zwembad (Pool of Martyn)

  • Cost (as printed): 1 yellow Gold, 2 light-blue Marble.
  • Victory Points: 6.
  • Effect: lose 2 Silver to gain 1 Virtue.
  • Printed icons: two round brown Silver coins, an arrow, then a purple Virtue banner.

Disclosed Gaps

  • No publisher rules text on the cards. The card faces show icons only, apart from the Dutch card names and the LEERLINGEN sheet. The effects above are read from the icons and cross-checked against the English-edition promo files for the same cards.
  • Abbot location. The LEERLINGEN sheet and the Abbot card disagree on the location (Town Centre versus King's Storehouse). The card is followed, and the sheet is kept as printed. This is not corrected in the sheet text.
  • Resource colour key. The photos print no resource key. Resources are named by colour and shape, and the mapping is taken from the English-edition promo files for the same cards.
  • Corner and star symbols. Small corner icons and star symbols on the cards are printed but their meaning is not given on the cards, the sheet, or the English-edition files. They are not transcribed.
  • Photo resolution. The cards were read from BGG-resolution photographs. Where a reading is uncertain (the Wachter sheet line above), this is noted in the text.
