Components

  • 16 Attribute Cards
  • 2 Category Cards (Must Have, But No)

Players will need a 5 minute timer (phone/clock).

Setup

Place the Category Cards in a column in the center of the table. Form a face-down deck with 5 random Attribute Cards, and set the other attributes aside.

Attributes marked ⚠ are more difficult. Use in expert level play.

Gameplay

Over a series of 5 turns, test your movie knowledge by naming movies that meet an increasingly narrow set of requirements.

First Turn

Start the 5 minute timer. Draw a card and place it face up in the Must Have category (place it to the right of the "Must Have" card). As a group, decide on a movie that has the stated attribute.

Turns 2-5

On subsequent turns, draw a card and place it face up in the category such that the previously named movie fails to meet the new requirement.

If you're not sure whether the previous movie has the attribute you just drew, place the attribute in the Must Have category and make sure all future movie choices meet the requirement.

As a group, decide on a movie that meets all of the requirements including the new one.

Repeat this process for all 5 cards in the deck. The difficulty increases every turn: attributes never leave or switch categories once placed.

Example

You draw "Cat" on the first turn and place it in the Must Have category. Your group chooses the movie Austin Powers, because it meets the "Must have cat" requirement.

You draw "Explosion" on the second turn. Since Austin Powers has an explosion, you must place "Explosion" in the But No category since Austin Powers fails the "But No explosion" requirement.

Your group chooses The Aristocats because it meets both requirements (it has a cat but not an explosion).

Game End

If you complete all 5 turns by naming 5 movies before time runs out, you win the game!

If time runs out, you lose the game.

For a harder game: Try to play with 6 attribute cards in 6 minutes, or 7 attribute cards in 7 minutes.

Optional: Go and watch the last movie chosen, whether you won or lost!
