Card Explanation
There are 5 levels of Mission Cards - 3 Core levels and 2 beginner levels. The Chick Level and the Clover Level are the beginner levels. Use these with young or new players.
Yellow (1 Star - Basic), Blue (2 Stars - Advanced), and Red (3 Stars - Expert) are the Core Levels. Each level requires you to build a different number of Blocks when constructing your Cube. The fewer number of Blocks the more difficult the game!
(Mission Card callouts: "The level of the game" points to the stars at the top of the card; "The combination rules for this card" points to the Block sizes and counts; "Select the matching 5 Draft Cards" points to the Draft Card row at the bottom.)
The combination rules for this card. When you play a game using this card, you will make 3 Blocks using 3 pieces each, 2 Blocks using 4 pieces each, and 2 Blocks using 5 pieces each, for a total of 27 pieces.
Select the matching 5 Draft Cards shown and shuffle them together. Reveal 1 each round to indicate what size Block each player will pass that turn.
Game Setup
-
Each player chooses a color and takes 27 pieces of that color.
-
Select a Mission Card of the chosen level and place it next to the Game Board.
[Tip] It is recommended that you play with the Green (Clover) level if players are new to the game.
-
Check the Mission Card. Each player will create their Blocks according to the Mission parameters. In the example below, each player will create 5 Blocks of 3 pieces each, and 3 Blocks of 4 pieces each.
[Important] The Game Board shows all of the legal Blocks players can create. Do not create Blocks that are not shown on the Game Board. Also, remember to create your Blocks so that no connector is sticking out!
Tip: To make the game flow better, try to make as many different types of Blocks when you create your initial Cube.
-
Build your Cube (3x3x3) using the Blocks you created. While you are building your Cube, you are allowed to alter your Blocks as you wish to make sure you build a perfect Cube. Just make sure you follow the rules laid out by the Mission Card.
-
Undo your Cube after all players have successfully built their Cubes. Make sure to keep your Blocks intact.
-
Select the 5 Draft Cards as indicated on the Mission Card. Shuffle them and place them in a stack face down near the Game Board.
-
Set aside the Game Board and the Mission Card. Place the Hourglass, Table Bell, and 3 Score Tokens (3, 2, 1 point) where all players can reach them.
Gameplay
-
Reveal the top Draft Card.
-
Each player chooses a Block of the indicated size and passes it to the player on their left or right, as indicated on the Draft Card. Pass all Blocks simultaneously.
-
As soon as the Blocks are passed, turn the Hourglass and each player will build a new Cube with the Blocks in front of them.
[Remember] Players are only able to alter Blocks while building their initial Cube. No Blocks may be altered after players have passed Blocks.
-
When a player finishes their Cube, they should hit the Table Bell to let the other players know. The first player to finish their Cube gets the 3 point Score Token. The second player gets the 2 point Score Token. The third player gets the 1 point Score Token. The fourth player receives no points. Players are only awarded points if they complete their Cube before the hourglass expires.
-
The round ends when all players have completed their Cube or when the hourglass expires, whichever comes first.
-
Play three more rounds; the game ends after four rounds.
The End of the Game
The game ends after 4 rounds. The player with the highest score wins.
- If there is a tie, the player who scored highest in the last round wins.
- If there is still a tie, both players win.
Strategic Suggestions
- When building your Cube, if you have large Blocks, use them first as the base of your Cube.
- If you can, pass a 'complicated' Block to your opponents when passing to make building their next Cube more difficult.
- Try not to make [two Block shapes shown as pictures] at the same time when making your Cube. Trust us!
Note: the printed text shows the two shapes only as pictures; they are not named in words in the manual.
