Paris (Revised Edition)

Designer: Alban Viard. 3 to 4 players, 4 recommended.

Contents

Map, coloured new-city disc stickers.

Assembly

Cut out the new-city disc stickers and stick each onto one side of a grey town disc. On this map these new-city discs are used instead of the base game's new-city tiles.

Setup

No tiles are used, so put all tiles back in the box. Place 2 goods cubes on each coloured district that borders the river (riverside districts). Place 1 goods cube on each coloured district that does not border the river. Place 1 goods cube on each new-city disc. As in the base game, place goods on every space of the goods display.

How to Play

Turn Order Determination

The turn order action (pass right) that normally takes effect in this phase is replaced by the fly boat action. The fly boat action takes effect in the goods transport phase (see "Goods Transport: Fly Boat" below).

Track Laying

Track laying is represented indirectly by placing discs on the circular spaces on the map. Each of those spaces represents an inter-district link, and each space can hold only one disc. In this phase, each player may build only one inter-district link on one empty circular space. Each link costs $6.

Action: Urbanisation

You may place one of the new-city discs, together with one of its goods cubes, directly onto one uncoloured district on the map. That district becomes a district of the same colour as the disc, and it may accept goods according to the normal Paris rules (see "Goods Transport" below).

Action: Engineer

You may build two inter-district links instead of one. The cost of the second link is $4 instead of the usual $6.

Goods Transport

Districts are equivalent to cities in the base game. As with normal cities in Age of Steam, goods may enter a district from one link and leave the district along another link. As with normal cities, a district accepts goods of its own colour. Uncoloured districts accept nothing until they are urbanised. As in the base game, each link requires a locomotive level of 1 to pass through, and each link passed increases income by 1.

Action: Fly Boat

During one of the two goods transport phases, you may use a fly boat on the Seine. This moves one goods cube from a riverside district onto the Seine and along the Seine to another riverside district. Regardless of how far along the Seine the goods are moved, moving downstream counts as 1 link and moving upstream counts as 2 links. However, a fly boat move earns only 1 income increase, whether the move is downstream (1 link) or upstream (2 links). In addition, a fly boat may not be used merely to cross the Seine and carry goods to the opposite bank.

Translator's note (from the source): this means that to transport goods to a district that is adjacent across the Seine, you still need your own disc on the inter-district link, as usual.

Note: the arrows on the source map indicate the downstream flow of the Seine.

Game End

Each inter-district link is worth 3 victory points.

Moscow

Designer: Alban Viard. 3 to 5 players, 4 to 5 recommended.

Basic Geography

The board is divided into 9 districts, separated by thick lines and by white and grey shading. The 8 lettered districts surround one central district and are adjacent to each other. Each round, the Mafia controls one district, and one Mafia control tile (a face-down track tile) is placed on that district's letter. In that round, all cities in the Mafia-controlled district are treated as black cities.

Setup

New-city tiles are not needed. All players first decide together which district the Mafia will control first, and place one face-down track tile on that district's letter.

Roll a six-sided die once for each player. For each result, place one black goods cube in the white city numbered with the rolled result (1 to 6). Likewise, roll the dice again for the black cities numbered 1 to 6 and place black goods cubes according to the results. Then place 2 goods cubes at random on each city.

How to Play

Action Selection

The urbanisation action that normally takes effect in the construction phase is replaced by the Russian Mafia action, which takes effect immediately.

Action: Russian Mafia

You may immediately move the Mafia control tile to any district. In this round, the cities in districts adjacent to that district become black cities.

Track Laying

Each player may lay only 2 track tiles per round. The basic laying cost is $3. Replacement costs are as in the base game.

Action: Engineer

You may lay 3 track tiles in Moscow instead of the 2 normally allowed.

Round End

Move the Mafia control tile one district counter-clockwise (from A to B, then from B to C, and so on).
