Panama (3–4 Players)
Except for the changes listed here, all the basic rules apply.
Setup
- Place 3 goods on PANAMA CITY.
- Place 2 goods on each other city.
- Place goods on the sea-route spaces as follows: a. 2 goods on the JAMAICA route b. 3 goods on the NICARAGUA route c. 3 goods on the COLOMBIA route
- Starting money is $8, not $10.
- When placing goods on the goods display, leave the third row of the starting cities (white 1–6 and black 1–6) empty. Place no goods there.
Playing the Game
Share Issuance
The money gained from issuing shares is $4 per share, not $5.
Turn Order Determination
The first player to drop out of the auction (pass) automatically chooses the Canal Management action. To represent this, place your disc on the turn-order action space (see "Goods Transport", "Action: Canal Management").
Action: Turn Order → Canal Management
See "Action: Canal Management" under Goods Transport below.
Printing note: in the printed rules the words "Turn Order" in this action label are struck through; the action it names is Canal Management, which replaces the Turn Order action.
Track Laying
Each player may lay only 2 track tiles per round, not 3.
Track laying cost
- Normal hex: $3
- Hex depicting ⑤ (a circled 5): $5
Clarification: the cost to lay track on a town is $3 + $1 per track connected to the town.
Action: Engineer
You may lay a 3rd tile. Also, you may lay for free one of the tiles laid this round, the one with the lowest cost.
Goods Transport
Panama City accepts red, yellow and purple goods.
Goods on the sea routes can be transported only by the Canal Management action.
Action: Canal Management
This action replaces the turn-order action and allows a 3rd transport. However, the goods transported must be goods that have been moved to Panama City from one of the sea routes. First choose one of the 3 sea routes and take the good on that route nearest to Panama City, then place it in Panama City without paying any cost (as if it had been in Panama City since the start of the game). Then transport this one good from Panama City by the normal rules. In this 3rd transport, passing cannot be used to raise the locomotive level. Therefore there is no benefit to not performing the 3rd transport.
End of Game
The game ends one round earlier than normal.
Corsica (3–4 Players, 4 Recommended)
Except for the changes listed here, all the basic rules apply.
Setup
- Remove the 4 black new city tiles (C, D, G, H) from the game.
- Take the 8 black goods and 10 randomly chosen non-black goods, together making 18 goods, and place them at random as follows: a. 4 goods on BASTIA b. 2 goods on each other city
- Place the other 44 goods (8 black and 36 non-black) randomly on the goods display (except C, D, G and H).
Playing the Game
Track Laying
Track cannot be laid on steep hexes. Steep hexes can only be built on by executing the Moor's Head action described below. (Translator's note: the Moor's Head is a motif from Corsica's coat of arms.)
Track laying cost
- Plain hex (light-coloured hex): $3
- Steep hex (dark-coloured hex): $3 (can only be laid with the Moor's Head action)
- Town: $3 + $1 per track connected to the town
Action: Engineer → Moor's Head
Printing note: in the printed rules the word "Engineer" in this action label is struck through; the action it names is Moor's Head, which replaces the Engineer action.
Of the track you lay, up to 2 pieces may be placed on steep hexes.
Goods Transport
Black towns behave like black cities. That is, black goods can be transported to black towns. However, they can still be urbanized. Goods cannot be transported to a city in which black goods are placed. You may pass through that city during a transport.
End of Game
The game ends one round earlier than normal.
