New Zealand

Players: 2-3 (2 recommended).

Unless the changes described here say otherwise, the base Age of Steam rules apply.

Setup

  • Remove the 4 black new city tiles from the game.
  • Place 1 black good and 1 non-black good in each city. Place a random third good in Auckland and in Wellington.
  • When placing goods on the Goods Display, skip the black new cities.
  • This map ends after 9 rounds only.

Victory Condition

  • Each player's victory condition is to ship at least 1 black good to each of the 5 outlying islands.

Playing the Game

Action Selection

The actions you may select depend on the round. Cover any action that cannot be selected with a disc of an unused player.

(The Production action and the Turn Order action can never be selected.)

  • Odd rounds: only Priority Shipping, Locomotive and Engineer can be selected.
  • Even rounds: only Priority Build, Locomotive and Urbanization can be selected.

Laying Track

You may do one of the following:

  • Lay up to 2 hexes of track.
  • Lay 1 ferry link to an outlying island.

Building costs:

  • Plain: $3
  • Ferry link: $5

Action: Urbanization

You cannot urbanize onto a black new city tile.

Action: Engineer

You may lay both 2 hexes of track and 1 ferry link.

Shipping Goods

When you ship a black good, place one of your player discs (if you do not already have one there) in the destination outlying island. Any player may ship to any outlying island.

As with ordinary links, you may use other players' ferry links, but their owners receive the income!

Game End

Only players who have shipped to all outlying islands are eligible to win. Every player who has not met this condition is eliminated.

(Therefore, if only one player meets the condition, that player wins, however poor the result!)

Score victory points as usual using only the players who were not eliminated. Each ferry link counts as 2 income.

Korea (2025 Revised)

Players: 4-5 (4 recommended).

Unless the changes described here say otherwise, the base Age of Steam rules apply.

Setup

  • Place 12 yellow player discs on the military demarcation line (the thick black line).
  • Place 1 good in each North Korean city and 3 goods in each South Korean city.
  • Place 1 grey player disc on the round 1-4-7-10 space (marked with the north arrow) on the map.

Playing the Game

Laying Track

Building costs:

  • You may lay at most 2 track tiles per round.
  • Inside North Korea: plain costs $2, mountain costs $3, and all combination track costs are as normal.
  • Inside South Korea: plain costs $3, mountain costs $4, and all combination track costs are as normal.

Action: Engineer

Pay to lay up to 3 track tiles, with a total cost of $9 or less.

Shipping Goods

Shipping goods across the military demarcation line is permitted in one direction only, as shown by the grey disc in the lower left corner of the map.

  • Rounds 1, 4 and 7: goods may be shipped from South Korea to North Korea only.
  • Rounds 2, 5 and 8: goods may be shipped from North Korea to South Korea only.
  • Rounds 3, 6 and 9: goods may not be shipped across the line.
  • Round 10: goods may be shipped in both directions.

Advancing the Round Marker

Move the grey disc to the arrow of the next round.
