Moon

Moon is a map for 3 to 4 players.

Mankind has started to colonize the Moon in earnest. Many lunar Towns and Cities have been founded and now they need a rail system to connect them. You are just one of a number of high-tech rail barons ready to exploit this brave new world...

Components

  • Sun tile
  • Satellite tile
  • Engineer Action tile
  • Low Gravitation Action tile

Setup

Place 2 cubes on each City. Place 2 cubes per player on the Landing hex, which will be found in the center of the map. These represent goods from Earth. Remove the black New City tiles from the game. Fill the Goods Display as usual with the exception of the black New Cities. Place the Sun tile on the night space on the top right corner of the map. This tile is used to indicate which side of the moon is day. The opposite side is night. The sides are divided by an imaginary line between X1 and X5.

Build Track

Each player is limited to building only two track tiles per turn. Players can only build from the Landing hex or a City that is connected by Complete Links to the Landing hex. This means that at the beginning of the game the first player can only build from the Landing hex, while the second player can build either from a City Linked by the first player or from the Landing hex.

Track can be built off the edges of the map and will connect to the corresponding number on the opposite side. i.e. Track built to the edge of the map to hex side labeled '1' on one side of the map will connect to track built to/from the hex side labeled '1' on the opposite side of the map.

Track Costs

  • Towns cost $2 + $1 for every track section leading to the Town.
  • Standard Crater hexes (light gray) cost $3 to build simple track.
  • Mountain hexes cost $4 to build simple track.

Engineer Action

The Engineer action allows the player to build up to 3 track tiles instead of 2.

Low Gravitation Action

This new action, Low Gravitation, allows a player the use of one Complete Link that belongs to another player as if it was owned by the player selecting the Low Gravitation action (i.e. also gains the income from using the link). A player may use this ability during both rounds of Move Goods in a turn.

Move Goods

The Landing hex functions as a colorless City; it does not accept or produce goods, but Goods cubes may pass through it. The Sun tile on the night space indicates that all Cities on the opposite side of the map (the night side) are temporarily black and only accept black cubes for that turn.

Goods Growth

Roll 2 dice for each player. Only Cities on the day side of the moon this turn that are connected to the Landing hex by Complete Links can receive goods. No Cities on the night side of the moon receive Goods cubes. After rolling for Goods Growth, move the Sun tile to the other side of the map to indicate that is day on that side for the next turn and advance the Turn Track marker. New Cities are numbers only (not light or dark) and only produce if they are on the day side of the map during Production and the matching dice numbers are rolled.

Satellite Mini-Expansion

During setup, place the Satellite tile on the outside border of the moon in the hex space labeled X1. Place 6 cubes on the Satellite tile if playing with 3 players or 8 cubes on the Satellite tile if playing with 4 players. The Satellite will add 1 cube at the end of each turn to an adjacent hex. At the end of the turn, the player in last place on the income track (ties broken by last in turn order) chooses a cube on the Satellite tile to place on an adjacent hex, then moves the Satellite to the next position in counter-clockwise direction. X1 to X2, X2 to X3, etc.

If a player builds track over a hex with a cube, then the cube is placed on the tile and may be delivered. If the Satellite places a cube on existing track, that cube can be delivered from that track segment, per the normal Move Goods rules.
