Belgium

Belgium (4-5 players). Designer: Alban Viard.

Beer cities always want more beer! Put the beer away where the drunks can't see it.

All base game rules apply except for the changes listed here.

Setup

Place one beer cube (yellow cube) in each city except DÜSSELDORF and LUXEMBOURG. Randomly place a second cube in each of those 10 cities (one city may end up with two yellow cubes). Randomly place four non-yellow cubes each in DÜSSELDORF and LUXEMBOURG. Return the yellow new city E to the box. When placing cubes on the goods display, do not place any cubes in column E.

This map ends one round earlier than usual.

Playing the Game

Action Selection

Action: Locomotive / Beer

This action space is in the top-left corner of the map. A player who chooses this action immediately takes 2 beer cubes from the bag (or as many as are in the bag, if fewer than 2) and places them directly on any cities on the map (they may be split between cities). If fewer than 2 are taken (even 0), simply place what was taken. There is no compensation for a shortfall, and the player may not choose another action instead.

Laying Track

Laying cost:

  • Plain: $2
  • Forest (dark hex): $4

Action: Urbanization

Urbanization is not possible in the yellow new city E.

Delivering Goods

On this map, coloured cities differ from the normal rules as follows:

  • If a city has a beer cube, that city is considered a yellow city in all circumstances.
  • If a city has no beer cube, that city is the same as in the base game (that is, a city of the colour it appears to be).

While MECHELEN is a town (that is, before it is urbanized), each time a cube being delivered passes through MECHELEN, take one beer cube from the bag and place it in MECHELEN. If there are no beer cubes in the bag, skip this step.

Goods Growth

Action: Production

The Production action cannot be used.

South Africa

South Africa (4-6 players, 5 recommended). Designer: Alban Viard.

South Africa is one of the world's leading gold exporters! Find gold and secure victory!

All base game rules apply except for the changes listed here.

Setup

Place 2 cubes in each city. Each player starts the game with $20 in cash; the number of shares remains at 2.

Playing the Game

Determining Turn Order

Each time a player makes a bid in an auction, that player must pay an additional $5 to the bank. A player who passes without bidding does not have to pay this $5.

Laying Track

Laying cost:

  • Plain: $2

Delivering Goods

A player who delivers 1 yellow cube reduces their own share count by 1 share.
