The Card

The card prints no name. The title "Above and Below: G@mebox Building Promo Card" is the BGG item name.

Front

  • Gold tile with 4 (top left): The card's cost is 4. Buying a building costs coins equal to its cost, paid to the supply (base rulebook, Build action: "He must pay an amount of coins to the supply equal to the cost of the card.").
  • Key symbol (below the cost tile): A key. The base rulebook identifies key house cards by this symbol ("9 Key House Cards (notice the Key Symbol)"). This card is therefore a Key House card.
  • Cream arrow pointing into a blue-bordered dark tile: The tile shows a white crescent moon with teal cloud streaks. The base rulebook defines the arrow only as "an arrow symbol next to a good" (Refresh Goods on Buildings). The moon picture is not defined on cards in the base rulebook; the base rulebook uses a moon symbol only for the exhausted-area grass on the player board (Setting up the Game, step 1). The arrow is not a good, so the Refresh Goods on Buildings rule does not apply to this card.
  • Cream open hand with a right-pointing triangle on the palm (lower centre): The base rulebook does not define a hand symbol. No effect is printed for it on the card.
  • Two blue tiles with brown "?" villager silhouettes (lower left and lower right): Villager slots, showing that the card's effect involves villagers. The base rulebook does not define these symbols.
  • Small blue-framed white villager silhouette (above the right-hand tile): A villager picture with no question mark. The base rulebook does not define it.

Back

  • Key symbol (top centre): The same key as on the front.
  • Blue tile with a white block icon (centre): A building-type icon. The base rulebook does not name or define it.

Effect

The card prints no effect text. The following is the BGG item description for this promo, quoted verbatim:

This promo introduces a new key Building Card that you can use in the game. At the end of the round, you can discard a villager that you have and gain a new one from the row for free. You can only select from the remaining villagers on the board before refilling villagers for the next round.

In the base rulebook, the row is the five villagers placed along the top of the reputation board (Setting up the Game, step 3). The refill is the base rulebook's "New Villagers" step, which slides the remaining villagers left and draws new ones from the villager pile (End the Round, New Villagers). The "before refilling" wording therefore places the card's effect before that step.

Notes

  • The effect is a key building, so it counts as a Key House card for the setup rule that draws key houses (base rulebook, Setting up the Game, step 2).
  • The base rulebook has no rule for discarding a villager. The source does not say where a discarded villager goes. This file does not add one.
  • An earlier reading of this card's lower-left hand as a cider barrel (with a cider effect) was wrong. It came from a BGG item record that did not match this card. The photos show no barrel, and the effect is the one quoted above.
