Contents

The Hero Pack 1 box contains:

  • 1 colour rules book
  • 4 Hero Character Sheets
  • 4 unique hero figures
  • 6 Event cards
  • 1 card each for the four Corner Location decks: The Manor, Olde Woods, Windmill and Abandoned Keep
  • 1 Villain card

New Heroes

The expansion adds four new heroes. Each has a unique hero figure matching a Hero Character Sheet. Each hero's abilities are described on their Hero Character Sheet, and the rulings below clarify several of them.

  • Adrianna, the Traveler
  • Harlow Morgan, the Inventor
  • Lucy Hanbrook
  • The Crimson Shadow

The biographical profile of each hero on the sheet is flavour text and is not reproduced here.

New Cards

The expansion adds 10 new cards: 6 Event cards, and one card for each of the four Corner Location decks of Shadowbrook (The Manor, Olde Woods, Windmill and Abandoned Keep). Shuffle these cards into their respective decks.

New Rule: Hero and Matching Ally Card

Some characters who were previously represented by an Ally card found in a Corner Location are now full heroes. An example is Lucy Hanbrook, whose card belongs to The Manor deck. She now has a chance to play a more important role in saving her town from the supernatural Villain.

Instead of removing her Ally card from the game (or allowing it to be one of another hero's Allies at the same time), use the following rule.

If an Ally card is found whose "heroic" counterpart is already in play, remove that Ally card from the game and place the hero there, in the location where that card was found.

This models a situation in which one character is called to join another. As a reward, both heroes gain 2 D6 clues each.

If a hero draws the Ally card of "their own" character (for example, the Lucy Hanbrook hero draws the Ally card "Lucy Hanbrook"), that hero gains 2 D6 clues instead. The hero has used their good knowledge of the area to obtain the information they need.

New Villain: The Necromancer

The Necromancer's profile on the sheet is flavour text and is not reproduced here. The villain's rules follow.

Awakening the Dead

The Necromancer has full power over the undead. He does not only start the game with Walking Dead tokens in 3 Random Locations; at the start of each Mystery Phase he also places Walking Dead in a Random Location.

As before, if the Walking Dead tokens have run out when you need to place them, move the Shadow Track marker 1 step closer to Darkness.

Relentless Advance

At the start of each Mystery Phase (before anything else is done), each minion on the board moves 1 space along the shortest route to the Town Hall.

These minions move BEFORE "Awakening the Dead" is resolved. Therefore, minions that have just appeared do not move this turn.

Minion Table

The Necromancer uses the Vampire's Minion Table from the base game.

Rulings and Clarifications

Q. Adrianna is blind. Can she use firearms?

A. Yes, she can. Little is known of her past, but it is clear she is well trained in using any weapon, and her senses are extraordinarily sharp.

Q. If Adrianna has an item that lets her attack first (for example, a "Hunting Rifle"), does it give her an additional bonus? Does she also attack first against enemies with the "early attack" ability, such as the Werewolf?

A. No. She gets no additional bonus. If your opponent also has the "early attack" ability, you both attack simultaneously, as normal.

Q. Can Harlow Morgan use his Invention ability to take an additional item from the Town Items stack?

A. No. Only from the discard pile. Unsold Town Items are not considered a discard pile.

Q. Heroes who start the game in a Corner Location (for example, Lucy Hanbrook) must roll for Lingering in order to stay and investigate that location?

A. Yes. A Corner Location as a starting location gives the hero no advantage in this case.

Q. Heroes who start the game in a Corner Location move there when they are knocked out, rather than to the Town Hall. But what happens if a hero is knocked out on the expansion's game board?

A. In this case, heroes move to the location the expansion requires. They move to their starting location only when they need to move to the Town Hall on the Shadowbrook board.

Q. Is the Crimson Shadow's "Criminal" ability resolved before he explores a location? If the test is failed, can he still explore?

A. Yes, in both cases. You must pass a Cunning test for the "Criminal" ability if you end your turn on a Town space (even before a fight with minions). After the test, your turn proceeds as normal regardless of the result, unless you are knocked out.

Q. Does the "Shadow Step" ability give a movement bonus (like a horse)?

A. Yes. This ability simply adds the option to move 6 spaces or more. Likewise, if the movement is restricted in some way (for example, by the Mystery card "Fog"), this also affects the use of the ability.

Translator's note: the Corner Location names on the sheet ("Ancient Forest", "Abandoned Fortress") are rendered with the base game's English names, "Olde Woods" and "Abandoned Keep". The ability and item names "Hunting Rifle" and "Shadow Step", and the card names "Fog" and "Lucy Hanbrook", are back-translated from the Russian where no English form was available to check. The sheet's phrase "the expansion's game board" in the knock-out ruling is reproduced as printed.
