Components

One player only. Light on rules. Big on replayability.

  • 12 Village Cards. Each card has an unsupplied side and a supplied side. Cards show fields, roads, basic resources (shown as a black circle), craftspeople, abilities, reset resources, and crafted resources (shown as a black square or a black hexagon).
  • 6 Gift Cards. Each card has a gift side and a transport side.

Setup

  1. Shuffle the Gift Cards and place 1 on the table gift-side up.
  2. Flip the next 3 cards and place them next to the gift, transport-side up. Remove the remaining Gift Cards from the game.
  3. Flip the Village Cards to their unsupplied sides and shuffle them into a deck.
  4. Place the top Village Card into the village (your build area).
  5. Draw 1 Village Card into your hand.

Note: When you draw or play a Village Card, do not flip it over.

Gameplay

Over a series of turns, expand and improve your village so you can eventually deliver the dragon's gift. Each turn, take one of the following actions: Expand the Village, Craft a Resource, or Attempt to Craft the Gift.

Expanding the Village

Place the card from your hand into the village following the Placement Rules below. Then, draw 1 card if possible.

Tip: You can always look at the top of the deck to see your next card and plan ahead.

Placement Rules

See placement diagrams on the next panel.

  • The card must be placed unsupplied-side up.
  • The card must be placed vertically, but may be rotated 180°.
  • At least one road on the card must connect to a road on an existing card.
  • The card may be offset vertically or horizontally from existing cards as long as its roads connect.
  • The card may not cover, nor be tucked under, any existing cards.

Placement diagrams: cards marked with a green check are valid placements; cards marked with a red cross are invalid placements.

Crafting a Resource

Each Village Card shows a craftsperson who can create a crafted resource from 1-3 other resources. Some crafted resources (hexagon symbol) require other crafted resources (square symbol). To craft a resource, choose a card with a craftsperson, deliver their required resources to their crafting recipe (see Resource Deliveries), and flip that card horizontally to its supplied side.

  • Example: This craftsperson requires 1 ore to create 1 coin.
  • Example: This craftsperson requires 1 coin and 1 scroll to create 1 enchanted axe.

Resource Deliveries

Before a craftsperson can create their resource, you must deliver their required resources to them. Each resource must be delivered either directly or by a special transport (but not by any combination).

Direct: If a resource is connected by road to a craftsperson's recipe up to 2 cards away, it can be delivered directly to it. The distance traveled increases by 1 each time the roadway moves from one card to another.

Transport: You may exhaust a non-exhausted transport if its ability would allow you to deliver a resource to a craftsperson's recipe. Deliveries occur simultaneously; if an ability would cause you to move cards in the village, it never "blocks" another delivery.

When you exhaust a transport, rotate it 90°. An exhausted transport may be reset by crafting the resource shown by its name. When you reset a transport, return it to its upright orientation.

  • Basic Delivery: The green wood can be delivered directly to the craftsperson's recipe below, which is one card away along roads. The craftsperson's card is then flipped horizontally to its supplied side.

Advanced Delivery

The necessary resources can be delivered to the craftsperson's recipe as follows:

  1. Deliver the purple scroll directly to the recipe, which is 2 cards away along roads.
  2. The blue coin cannot be directly delivered since the road above the craftsperson is not connected to the crafting recipe itself. Exhaust the Hot-air Balloon (rotate it to the right) to use its ability. This delivers the blue coin along the green fields to the recipe.
  3. Flip the craftsperson's card horizontally to its supplied side. This crafts an axe resource, so the Hot-air Balloon can be immediately reset (rotate it back upright).

Hot-air Balloon ability: Using only one field, deliver a resource up to 3 cards away (it may not cross any roads).

Attempting to Craft the Gift

When you choose to take this action, or are unable to take another action during your turn, you will attempt to craft the dragon's gift. To do so, place the gift into the village following the Placement Rules, and attempt to craft it by completing that craftsperson's Resource Deliveries. Proceed to Scoring to see how you fared.

Important: Crafting the gift ends the game. If you cannot complete the Resource Deliveries to craft the gift, you lose the game!

Scoring

After crafting the gift, score 1 point for each crafted resource (marked with the yellow check symbol) in your village. (The gift is not a resource, so it does not count towards your score.) If you were unable to craft the gift or scored 8 or less, you lose the game!
