Overview
50 Clues is a series of games created by Jeppe Norsker. You play from the perspective of Maria, who is on the run with her son while also preparing for a final showdown. White Sleep is the second episode of the murderous trilogy about Maria.
50 Clues is an escape room-style puzzle game, but in a format that can be played at home. During the game, you must imagine that you are a plainclothes police officer investigating the case. You combine objects, solve puzzles, and decipher codes to complete the story. A smartphone or tablet keeps track of the solutions and provides multistep hints if the need arises.
The game is pure fiction. Names, individuals, companies, events, places and incidents are either results of the designer's imagination or used in a fictitious manner. Any likeness to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental.
WARNING! Contains graphic violence. Unsuitable for children.
Setup
Separate the cards and put them in order so that the side with the card back is on top. Then turn this card over.
Go to 50clues.com and start the game. Enter the serial number found inside the cover of your box to begin. Each serial number can be activated up to 30 times.
IMPORTANT: You must watch the tutorial video before you begin. The tutorial is also a prologue to the trilogy, which takes place five years later. Watch it carefully.
How to Read the Cards
Each card is marked with a card number. Cards that display a number at the top right can be removed from the game once you have finished with them.
Discrete, framed numbers refer to cards which you are allowed to look at immediately.
A number in a red box can only be combined with another number in a red box, using the app. Some numbers will be used in several contexts.
A number in a black box can only be entered as a code in the app. This means that you investigate or do something with it.
Codes can also consist of the card number followed by a code that you find. How this works will appear from the individual card.
Playing the Game
Follow the instructions detailed on the cards to progress the game and solve the mysteries: look at referenced cards, combine numbers found in red boxes using the app, and enter numbers found in black boxes as codes in the app. The app keeps track of the solutions and provides a multistep hint system, so you never get stuck — you can ask for help wherever you are in the story.
The game only needs a browser. No app installation is required. The game's state is preserved if the browser is closed or you need to take a break, so you can stop and resume at any time.
50 Clues works with up to five players at once, making it a social experience.
End of the Game
The story only makes sense to experience once. When you have followed the cards and codes through to the end, the case is solved and the story is complete.
