Components

  • 25 Boss cards
  • 2 Quest cards
  • 6 Artifact cards
  • 42 Hero cards (black)
  • 1 Hero Mat (Druid/Shaman)
  • 5 x 2 Hero cards (red, yellow, blue, green, purple)

Setup

When playing with the expansion, the following new rules and setup adjustments apply:

  • Each player chooses a Hero Mat and places it in front of them. Because the Druid and the Shaman come with a new Hero Mat, you can now also play with six players! Of course, you can also use the new Hero Mat with fewer players; simply leave out another Hero Mat.
  • Take the Hero Deck of 42 cards in the same colour as your Hero Mat (for example, for the Valkyrie take the 42 yellow cards). For every base-game deck there are two new Action cards. Shuffle these into the remaining cards of the same colour, place the deck on your Hero Mat, and draw your starting hand.
  • Each of the six hero pairs has an Artifact. If you play with fewer than six players, the Artifacts of the heroes who are not playing come into the game. Place the corresponding Artifacts colourful side up next to each other.
  • The setup of the dungeon stays as in the base game, with one exception: five Dungeon cards of the base game are replaced by the five Boss cards of this expansion. First take the five Boss cards of the current boss, then add as many Dungeon cards as needed to reach the number shown on the back of the Boss Mat for your player count and difficulty level. Then add the number of Quest cards shown there (see the illustration "Boss Mat for 6 Players").

Starting hand by number of players:

Number of PlayersStarting Hand
2 players5 cards
3 players4 cards
4 to 6 players3 cards

Boss Mat for 6 Players

The Boss Mat is printed "for 6 players". Each cell shows two figures. As the example below shows, the first is the total number of Dungeon cards, including the five Boss cards, and the second is the number of Quest cards.

LevelBoss 1Boss 2Boss 3Boss 4Boss 5
Apprentice18 / 1222 / 1226 / 1230 / 1234 / 12
Hero22 / 1226 / 1230 / 1234 / 1238 / 12
Dungeon Master26 / 1230 / 1234 / 1238 / 1242 / 12

Example: Prepare the first dungeon at Apprentice level for 6 players as follows: 5 Boss cards, 13 Dungeon cards and 12 Quest cards (that is, 2 Quest cards per player with 6 players). Together these form the Boss Mat and the Dungeon.

Druid & Shaman

The dark powers of the Overlord did not remain hidden from the mystical team. Druid and Shaman join the heroes to put an end to evil once and for all.

Unlike the other heroes, the Druid and the Shaman are not focused on one particular resource. Instead they are in harmony with all of them and can handle any situation.

  • The Shaman's ability Transcendence (Transzendenz) lets another hero take the top 3 cards of their own discard pile into their hand. The Shaman cannot choose themselves.
  • The Druid's ability Alleviation (Linderung) lets you place an active curse under the Dungeon. You place the card face down under all remaining cards that are still in the Dungeon.

The Hero Deck of the Druid and the Shaman contains ten Infinity cards (Unendlichkeitskarten), two for each resource. When an Infinity card is played, it counts for each matching symbol on the current Dungeon card. This also applies to Mini-Bosses and Bosses.

Example: You have reached the end of the second dungeon and face the Flecken-Schrecken. Three Shields already lie in the middle of the table, and the Druid plays an Infinity Scroll. It satisfies all seven Scrolls that the Boss requires: Done!

The manual's Druid & Shaman section also shows these two action cards (the manual does not state which hero's deck each belongs to):

  • Purification (Läuterung) can banish any one active curse and so remove it from the game. (Card text: Banish a curse.) Purification is powerless against the Overlord's curse Sheepified! (Schafiziert!), because that curse forbids playing Action cards (cards with a black border).
  • Mythic Regeneration (Mythische Regeneration) allows all heroes to take the top 2 cards of their own discard pile into their hand. You may not search the pile for specific cards. (Card text: Everyone draws 2 cards from their own discard pile.)

Artifacts

Each hero who cannot join you gives you a particularly powerful Artifact to take along. When the minions threaten to overwhelm you, this can bring some very special support.

This expansion contains 6 Artifact cards, one for each Hero Deck. After everyone has chosen their Hero Deck, take all the Artifacts of the heroes you did not choose. For example, if the Sorceress and the Wizard are not playing, you receive the Artifact Möbius Scroll. This gives smaller hero groups more Artifacts to use!

At the start of each dungeon, place the respective Artifacts colourful side up on the table, where every player can reach them easily. Return the remaining Artifacts to the box.

You may use each laid-out Artifact at any time, but only once per dungeon. Once you have used an Artifact, turn it over to its grey side; it is no longer available for the rest of the dungeon. At the start of the next dungeon you may turn all your Artifacts face up again.

The six Artifacts, by hero pair:

  • Atonal Battle-Axe (Atonale Streitaxt), Barbarian & Gladiator: Defeat a Monster, or everyone draws 2 cards.
  • Smart Watch "Rustico", Ninja & Thief: Stops time until someone plays a card into the middle of the table. Everyone draws 3 cards.
  • M-JH'ÖILNØR (name as printed), Paladin & Valkyrie: Remove the top 2 cards of the Dungeon from the game.
  • Rainbow Healing (Regenbogenheilerei), Huntress & Ranger: Each player places their own discard pile under their own draw pile.
  • Möbius Scroll (Möbius-Schriftrolle), Sorceress & Wizard: Defeat a Mini-Boss, or everyone ignores an Event.
  • Curse Swatter (Fluchklatsche), Shaman & Druid: Banish all curses.

Only Two Heroes? (Spielen nur 2 Helden?)

Then each of you chooses two Hero Decks as usual, so four decks are in play. You therefore receive only the Artifacts of the two Hero Decks you did not choose.

Boss Cards

Each Boss now gets its own cards to make life hard for you. These Boss cards contain a colourful mix of Mini-Bosses, Events and a completely new threat: Curses!

Curses

Curses are part of the Dungeon deck and work similarly to Events. However, they remain in play until you get rid of them.

The rules of Curses always affect all players.

When you reveal a Curse, place it on the table, within easy reach of each player. Then simply reveal the next Dungeon card and continue the game as usual. As long as a Curse is active, i.e. lying face up on the table, every one of you must follow its rules. If you reveal further Curses while one is already active, you must follow those rules as well!

What Happens If I Do Not Follow the Curse Rules?

Anyone who breaks the rules of an active Curse must first place their entire hand in the middle of the table. It is not placed on the discard pile; these cards are lost for good! Then the rule violation must be undone, if that is possible.

Example: You are in Zola the Gorgon's dungeon and reveal the curse Gorgon's Gaze. From now on you can no longer use your special abilities. After some more Dungeon cards, the Barbarian, in battle frenzy, breaks the Curse rule: he defeats a Monster with his ability Forceful Arguments (Schlagkräftige Argumente). As punishment he must place his entire hand in the middle of the table and put the supposedly defeated Monster back. You have to defeat it again!

Curse Cards

  • Sheepified! (Schafiziert!): Forbids you to play Action cards. Therefore you also cannot use Frenzy (Raserei) or Purification (Läuterung). You have to think of something else to deal with this curse! (Card text: No Hero can play Action cards.)
  • Geblitzdingst: Forces you to play with face-down cards. To do this, each player places their hand cards face down in front of them. Naturally you may look at your own cards at any time, but always only one card after another. (Card text: Everyone plays with face-down cards.)
  • Gorgon's Gaze (Gorgonischer Blick): Forbids you to use special abilities. Therefore the Druid also cannot place this curse under the Dungeon with her ability Alleviation. (Card text: No Hero can use their special ability.)
  • Timer Rattle (Zeitrassel) and Five to Twelve (Fünf vor zwölf): Forbid you to stop the timer. This means you cannot play cards such as Divine Shield (Göttlicher Schild) or Time Loop (Zeitschleife). The Wizard's ability Stop Time (Zeit einfrieren!) and the Artifact Smart Watch "Rustico" also cannot be used. (Card text: The Timer cannot be stopped.)
  • Cursed Toy (Verfluchtes Spielzeug): Forbids you to have more than 3 cards in hand. If a card or ability nevertheless tells you to draw more cards, draw the corresponding number, then place as many cards on your own discard pile as needed until you have only 3 cards in hand. (Card text: Everyone may have at most 3 cards in hand.)

New Events

  • Grab! (Umklammert!), Corrosive Spew (Ätzender Auswurf) and My Swords! (Meine Schwerter!) force you to place all Resource cards with the named symbol on your own discard pile. This includes Double Symbol cards and Infinity cards, but not Action cards such as Wild Cards (Joker) or Magic Bombs. (Card text for My Swords!: Everyone must place all hand cards that show a Sword on their own discard pile.)

Translator's note: the rules text does not name the symbol for each of these three cards; each card shows its symbol as an icon. The icons on Grab! and Corrosive Spew are not legible in the scan, so check them against the physical cards.

  • Crowdfunding (a Quest card): Lets you turn a used Artifact from its grey side to its colourful side, so you can use it once more. If you reveal this event but have either no Artifacts or only unused ones, the effect fizzles. Even so, each of you must place your hand cards on your own discard pile. (Card text: Flip a used Artifact. Everyone must place all hand cards on their own discard pile.)
  • Poisoned Milk (Vergiftete Milch): The player with the most hand cards must place all their hand cards on their own discard pile. If several players are tied for the most hand cards, all players involved in the tie must place their hand cards on their own discard piles. (Card text: Everyone with the most hand cards must place all hand cards on their own discard pile.)
  • Acid Polish (Säurepolitur): Affects only players who have at least one Resource card with a Shield in hand. This includes Double Symbol cards and Infinity cards, but not Action cards such as Wild Cards or Magic Bombs. (Card text: Everyone with hand cards that show a Shield must place all hand cards on their own discard pile.)

Hero Cards: New Actions

This expansion adds 2 new Action cards to each Hero Deck of the base game. All new cards are marked with a skull symbol in the lower left corner. The symbol only distinguishes expansion cards from base-game cards and has no effect in play. When you play with the expansion, shuffle the two new cards for each deck into their respective decks. You will need them!

  • Portal: Place the current Dungeon card under the Dungeon. You place the card face down under all remaining cards that are still in the Dungeon. It can only be used against Monsters, People, Obstacles or Mini-Bosses, not against Events or Curses.
  • Upgrade (Aufrüsten): Take all Resource cards with Swords and/or Shields from your discard pile into your hand. This includes Double Symbol cards and Infinity cards, but not Action cards such as Wild Cards or Magic Bombs.
