Setup
Choose a color and take the eight pieces of that color. Then use a mutually agreeable method to determine which player will go first and begin the game.
Turn Overview
You and your opponent will alternate taking turns until one of you wins the game. On your turn, place one of your pieces in an empty space to create a stack or add it to the top of an existing stack. However, you may not add a piece to a three-piece stack.
If you no longer have any pieces to place, move the top piece from a stack you control (a stack with one of your pieces at the top) to either of the two adjacent spaces or the space on the opposite side of the board. You may not move the piece to a space that already contains a three-piece stack.
Stacks cannot hold more than three pieces.
Calling "Second Best"
Any time your opponent makes a move, you may call "Second Best!" If you do, your opponent must take back their move and make a different one. You may call "Second Best!" as many times as you like during the game, but once you do, you must wait until your opponent's next turn before doing so again.
Move to an adjacent or opposite space!
Winning the Game
You win the game when you accomplish any of the following:
- You control four stacks in consecutive spaces.
- You control a stack containing three of your pieces.
- Your opponent is unable to make a move. (There are no spaces to which they can move any of their pieces.)
Q&A
Q: Who wins when a move results in both players simultaneously accomplishing one of the victory conditions?
A: The player who moved the piece would be the winner.
Q: Do I have to move a different piece when my opponent calls "Second Best!"?
A: Not necessarily. You may move the same piece, so long as you move it to a different space than you did with your initial move.
