Setting Up the Game
- Each player picks a colour and takes all 4 animal cards with that colour on the back. During the game, each player keeps these cards in her hand.
- Shuffle the action cards and make a draw deck.
- Put all 26 animals in the game box cover.
- Place the scoring tokens close by.
Playing the Game
The last player to pet a cow is the "Lead Player" for the first turn. What? None of you have ever petted a cow? Well, then... let's pick the oldest player to be the first Lead Player.
The Turn
On his turn, the Lead Player will play 3 "rounds". In the first round, the Lead Player...
- Mixes up the animals in the cover of the box. Then, he pulls out 10 to 15 animals without looking and lets them fall onto the table from a height of about 1 foot or so (20-30 cm).
- If any player notices that there are less than 10 animals or more than 15 animals on the table, she says so out loud. If she's right, she gets 1 point (1 green token), and the Lead Player must put the animals back in the box and try again.
Note: If the same Lead Player draws the wrong number of animals 3 times in a row, his turn is over and the player to his left becomes the new Lead Player.
Step 1
The Lead Player waits 10 seconds while the other players carefully look at the animals on the table. When the time is up, the Lead Player says:
"Now, close your eyes!"
Step 2
The Lead Player draws the top action card from the deck. After looking at the card, he places it face down in front of him and takes the action shown on the card.
Note: If the action on the card cannot be done (if the required animals are not on the table, for example), the Lead Player draws a new card from the deck.
The possible actions are (each shown on the card with an icon, and each paired with a question in the printed examples):
- Take 1 animal of the type shown on the card from the box cover and add it to the table. Try to place it with the animals already on the table. That way the new animal won't stand out.
- Take 1 animal of the type shown on the card from the table and put it back in the box cover.
- Choose 1 animal on the table of the type shown on the card and move it. It must move at least the distance of the long side of the action card.
- Choose 1 animal on the table of each type shown on the card and trade their places.
The question the other players must answer for each action is:
- Add: "Which animal has appeared?"
- Remove (hide): "Which animal has been hidden?"
- Move: "Which animal has moved?"
- Trade places: "Which 2 animals have traded places?"
Step 3
The Lead Player says:
"You can open your eyes!"
And, based on the action taken, he tells the other players the question for that action (see above).
The rest of the players
The rest of the players try to guess which animal took the action. Each player chooses the 1 or 2 cards from their hands that show the right answer to the question, and places them face down in front of them.
Scoring Points
After all players have chosen their animal card (or cards), they turn them over at the same time. The Lead Player shows his action card and checks the other players' answers:
- If nobody guessed the right answer, the Lead Player takes 1 point (green token).
- If 1 or more players guessed the right answer, each player who answered correctly takes 1 point (green token).
If you need to "make change", you can trade 3 green tokens for 1 red token.
Then, all players take their animal cards back into their hands.
The first round is now over, and the Lead Player begins his second round. He repeats Steps 1 to 3 (ask the others to close their eyes, draw an action card, ask for an answer). After the second round ends, he plays his third round.
After the Lead Player finishes all 3 rounds, his turn is over and the player on his left begins the next turn as the new Lead Player.
Note: If playing with 6 to 8 players, the Lead Player only plays 2 rounds each turn.
The Next Turn
The new Lead Player puts all the animals back into the box cover and shuffles all of the action cards to make a new deck (including the ones used last turn). She then takes her turn following all of the steps explained above.
The End of the Game
After everyone has had a turn as Lead Player, the game is over and everybody counts their point tokens. Remember that each green token is worth 1 point and each red token is worth 3 points.
The player with the most points is the winner!
If there is a tie, all tied players are winners. They can celebrate by playing another game of 1, 2, 3... Now you see me!
