No. A free excavation waives the excavate coin and the egg cost of the 3rd or 4th column, and cave cards have no printed cost of their own. An effect that merely plays a cave for free works the same way and is functionally an Excavate with nothing paid; some dragon abilities restrict the cave to your hand.
