When I entice a dragon onto a space with a cave card, is the cave card discarded?
Two players agree; the rulebook does not say what happens to the cave card.

No. The dragon is placed on top of the cave card, which stays on your mat. Some players discard the cave card instead; one player sees no downside beyond making it harder for others to check the space was excavated, but on-top is the normal way.
