Can we call a game a win for something other than the mission or a destiny, such as meeting up in a two-player game?
The rulebook states this in both Overview and End of Game.

Yes. Besides the mission, destiny and epic victories, you may define success through anything you pursue and achieve. A destiny card also covers meeting on the same location.
