You need your player board light-side up and flip it dark when you use the double advance. It flips back whenever one of your markers reaches the top step of a temple, which can happen several times a game. You may not double-advance if the second day would push a worker off a gear that wouldn't normally be pushed (a worker on action 6 of the four small gears, or on 9 of Chichen Itza); dummy workers never count as pushed off.
