When is corn added to the Tzolk'in gear, and does it matter whether it goes on before or after the gear turns?

In any round where nobody places a worker on the Starting Player Space, 1 corn goes from the bank onto the current tooth; if someone took the space, they collect the accumulated corn instead and no corn is added. The rulebook pages list the two steps (add corn, advance gear) in slightly different orders, but players agree there is no difference in play.
