Does a lone troop on a route space give me Presence there?
The Presence section lists the cases; the designer only noted the point seldom comes up.

Only if that route space is adjacent to a site or space where you have a troop, per the Presence rules. A designer noted that no card in the game needs Presence from a lone route troop, so it rarely matters.
