Does a retreat count as the opponent winning a space battle?
Replies agree and a publisher ruling is relayed, but second-hand.

A Naalu retreat before combat does not: a ruling relayed from the publisher is that no space battle occurs, so nobody wins it. For a normal retreat after a round, a reply citing the rules and FAQ says the side that remains wins the battle. A win needs at least one surviving unit, so if both sides are wiped out nobody wins.
