Do Mechanized Units and Mercenaries count for invasion objectives?

Disputed. The FAQ treats Mechanized Units as Ground Forces only for invading and controlling planets. One forum regular relayed a designer reply that, as written, they do not count for objectives needing an opposing Ground Force, while others cite an earlier designer reply that they do. Agree on a house ruling before the game.
