Can I take my tradesman off a card and place it back on the same card to get a better space?
The designer explicitly confirmed it, and the rulebook lets you hire a tradesman from anywhere on the board.

Yes, according to the designer. You may recruit your tradesman from anywhere on the board, including the same card, but you pay the full hiring cost again and must activate the card at least once. It is worthwhile only when a better space has opened up.
