The Theater is not contested if either you or the Heir has only the Magician assigned there and not yet placed. The Heir sends non-Magician Characters left to right, and its Magician in the Theater is always placed last. So if both sides have Apprentices assigned there, they go first; once only a Magician is left, the Theater is no longer contested.
