How does the Heir choose which Performance card and where to place its trick markers?

It first chooses a card already holding Heir tricks, then one holding yours, then the leftmost available, taking markers from its highest-yield trick first and aiming to make links. It never places the same trick twice on one card, and avoids a card leaving at end of turn unless it is the only option. With no link possible it uses the first empty spot, reading left to right. Link bonuses go to the performing side whoever owns the markers.
