How does the Engineer's extra starting trick work?

It is chosen after every player has picked a starting trick, so nobody's choice can be blocked. It must be a Level 1 trick, but of any school, not necessarily your favorite. It is not a starting trick, so it gets no free Prepare and no markers at setup. Its extra marker applies only when you later prepare it.
