Can the Marklin edition be combined with the Asia map, and what should be removed?

Yes, the designer says to remove the Marklin 4+ wild cards and the passenger cards, plus one Locomotive to keep the distribution close to normal. That leaves the deck nine cards short, which is fine for three or four players on a smaller map but tight at five.
