Must the Mah Jong holder lead the Mah Jong, and may they announce they have it?
The rulebook says the owner starts but need not lead it; the no-announcement point comes from players relaying the publisher.

The holder starts the hand but need not lead the Mah Jong; they may open with any legal combination and play the 1 later. The Mah Jong ranks as 1, the lowest card, and can only be played as a single or as the low end of a straight. Announcing before the first lead that you hold it is not allowed.
