Which strength bonuses count when I sacrifice units for a colony bid or war?
The rulebook states this directly.

Only the Unit's own Strength counts, because bonuses like Alexander the Great's, Joan of Arc's, Napoleon's or the Great Wall go to the civilization, not the Unit. Genghis Khan is the exception since his bonus is given to each Cavalry Unit. Colossus, Cartography, Navigation and Satellites give a Colonization bonus that helps pay for the bid itself, but you must still sacrifice at least one Unit.
