Can I remove a blockade without moving past it?
The rulebook does not spell this out, but several experienced players agree on it; there is no official ruling.

Yes. Pay the blockade's requirement with cards exactly as if moving onto it. The blockade is removed and you keep it, but your piece stays where it is. Whether anyone moves through afterwards is a separate choice, and the freed spaces are open to everyone.
