When is an attack obstructed by an obstacle?
The rulebook defines obstruction by the edge of the range ruler between closest points, and players add the arc rule.

When a rock sits on the straight line between the two ships' closest points, taken inside the attacker's firing arc. The defender then rolls one extra defense die. A defender sitting partly on a rock is not obstructed unless the rock is on that line. The ruler's width is irrelevant; only the line matters.
