If I hibernate again from the top of the track and pick a lower reward, do I lose another major artifact?
The rulebook ties the removal to moving onto the 4th space and lets you hibernate at the last space.

No. The artifact is removed only when you move onto the 4th space, not each time you choose a reward. At the last space you do not move your marker, and you may pick any reward on the right.
