Can I mix expansions from different arcs, such as The Gathering Storm and Alien Artifacts?
The designer (Tom Lehmann) answered this directly on BoardGameGeek.

You can, but the designer says there is no official support for it: the three arcs (Gathering Storm / Rebel vs Imperium / Brink of War, then Alien Artifacts, then Xeno Invasion / Xeno Counterstrike) were built and balanced separately. Individual cards usually blend without trouble, but optional modules (takeovers, orb game, invasion game) and start worlds interact badly across arcs.
