Does the fifth painting that ends the round count for ranking the artists?
The rulebook says to include paintings played to end the round, and many players agree.

Yes. It is never auctioned or owned, but it counts toward that artist's total when you rank artists, so the artist who triggered the end always ranks first. The word "sold" in the ranking text is loose wording; the rules explicitly say to include the round-ending painting.
